The Book of Everything Returns to Belvoir St Theatre

One of Belvoir St Theatre’s most adored productions is heading back to the stage this August, bringing with it a heartfelt story filled with imagination, courage and hope.

Running from 22 August to 20 September, The Book of Everything is a powerful theatrical experience adapted from the much-loved novel by Guus Kuijer. 

About The Book of Everything

Thomas is not your average nine-year-old. While other people see ordinary streets and rainy skies, Thomas sees canals overflowing with tropical fish, frogs bouncing through the neighbourhood and strange summer hailstorms. He records it all in his treasured notebook, The Book of Everything. Inside its pages, Thomas makes himself one important promise: When I grow up, I’m going to be happy.

At home, however, life is far from magical. Thomas’ strict father believes only religious books have value, and Thomas’ curiosity and imagination are often met with punishment instead of kindness. But when Thomas sees his beloved mother being hurt, he realises some things cannot stay silent.

Despite its serious themes, The Book of Everything is full of warmth, humour and wonder. Along the way, Thomas befriends the mysterious Mrs van Amersfoort, meets Eliza, a girl with a creaky leather leg, and even chats from time to time with a cheerful Jesus.

This beautifully crafted production blends fantasy with emotional storytelling to create an unforgettable theatre experience for families.
