Bear Giving Day 2026: Give a Bear, Double the Impact This September

Bear Giving Day 2026 is giving Australian families a simple way to make a big difference for children with cancer. Throughout September, The Kids’ Cancer Project is calling on families to donate a teddy bear to a child in hospital, with every bear matched by Smartways Logistics.

Coinciding with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and National Teddy Bear Day, this special campaign aims to deliver 300 bears to children across more than 70 hospitals while helping fund vital childhood cancer research.

What if a teddy bear could do more than provide a cuddle? This Bear Giving Day, your family can help put a furry friend into the arms of a child facing cancer while supporting research that could help create better treatments and outcomes for children in the future.

Throughout September, The Kids’ Cancer Project is bringing families together across Australia for Bear Giving Day, a special campaign held during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and National Teddy Bear Day.

The goal is simple but powerful: send 300 teddy bears to children in hospitals across Australia.

And thanks to logistics partner Smartways Logistics, every bear donated will be matched with another bear, doubling the number of cuddly companions reaching children in hospital.

Better still, every bear donated also helps support vital childhood cancer research.

How It Works

Families can choose how much they would like to give for Bear Giving Day:

• $29.95: Share the comfort by joining another donor to bring a bear to a child who needs one.
• $59.95: Gift a bear as a cuddly companion through treatment and beyond.
• $119.90: Give a bear bundle to reach more children while helping power more research breakthroughs.

Once donated, each bear is prepared by volunteers before being delivered to paediatric oncology wards in more than 70 hospitals across Australia. There, nurses use the bears as comforting companions and clever tools to help children understand medical procedures. Nurses can use the bears during play to demonstrate things such as taking blood pressure or inserting a cannula. Suddenly, something unfamiliar becomes a little easier to understand.

While the teddy bears offer comfort today, Bear Giving Day is also about changing tomorrow. Every bear donated helps The Kids’ Cancer Project continue funding research into childhood cancer, supporting work focused on improving treatments and outcomes for children.
