Song Play at Melbourne Recital Centre

Song Play gives children aged 0 to 5 real instruments, a room full of singing and a brand new musical theme every single week!

Melbourne Recital Centre runs Term 4 across eight Wednesdays from 7 October to 25 November, in two age groups.

What to Expect at Song Play

Early learning specialist Clare Zabrowarny designed the program and runs the sessions herself, mixing singing, musical games, dancing, hands-on percussion and stories told in song, with a different theme each week so kids who shook a tambourine in week one are stamping out a rhythm by week four. Classes are split by age, with the 0 to 2.5-year-olds at 9.15 am and the 2.5 to 5-year-olds at 10.15 am. Each runs about 45 minutes.

Song Play has run at the Centre since 2017, built on Kodály teaching, which trains a child's ear through singing well before any instrument turns up. The approach lines up with the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework, so it's no surprise kindergarten teachers and playgroups book sessions right alongside the families.

Good to know: the term sells as one package at $180 for eight weeks (single sessions are not available), and that price includes a Song Play musical pack your child takes home. Fair warning: the songs will carry on in your kitchen for the rest of the term!
