At St Martins, young people learn theatre by creating it themselves! The Workshops Program pairs participants with practising artists for an energetic, hands-on theatre-making experience where young ideas lead the way.

Throughout each term, children and teens build performance skills while growing their creative confidence. They also become part of a welcoming and inclusive community where every participant is encouraged to contribute, experiment and feel a genuine sense of belonging.

Creating Theatre From the Ground Up

Devising sits at the heart of the St Martins approach. Rather than working from an existing script, participants develop original theatre from their shared imaginations. They might build scenes, shape movement, invent characters or create soundscapes as the work begins to take form. The final performance grows through collaboration, curiosity and the creative choices made by the group.

A Workshop Experience Built Around Young People

Each workshop responds to the strengths and interests of its participants while supporting their social and emotional development. Young people are encouraged to take creative risks, trust their instincts and discover an artistic voice that feels entirely their own.

Every session is guided by two professional artists who are actively working in the arts industry. One artist focuses specifically on access and inclusion, helping ensure every young person feels supported and able to participate fully.

Age-Appropriate Programs

St Martins Youth Arts Centre offer tailored programs for three age groups:

  • Ages 5-8
  • Ages 9-12
  • Ages 13-18

For younger participants, workshops focus on channelling imagination into creative play, while older students dive deeper into ensemble work, developing skills in body, voice, and text to produce a showcase of devised work to perform for an audience of friends and family.

Free Trial

St Martins Youth Arts Centre offers a fully refundable one-week trial at the start of each term, giving participants the chance to explore their workshops risk-free!
