Is Lake Argyle Resort Australia's Best Caravan Park?

  • Family

When you think of caravan parks you usually think of smelly toilet blocks, greasy barbecues and if you're lucky, a murky swimming pool for the kids. Well, forget what you know and book your flights to Kununurra in northern Western Australia, because we have found Australia's most dazzling caravan park.

Lake Argyle Resort and Caravan Park is located 75 kilometres from Kununurra in a remote town in the Kimberley near the border between Western Australia and Northern Territory.

For as little as $18.50 a night, you can be diving into this spectacular infinity pool with 35 metres of infinity wet edge, a spa, and some of the most breathtaking scenery in Australia!!

Sure $18.50 will only get you an unpowered site, so if you really want to splurge, try a cabin or villa, starting at around $125 a night. Bear in mind you'll probably need to spend around $2k on flights to get there. (Suddenly that unpowered set up sounds mighty comfortable).

Lake Argyle itself needs to be seen to believed, the huge man made lake covers an area 18 times the size of Sydney Harbour. The best way to see it is by air... or boat, but don't swim, the resident crocs might have something to say about that.

The kids will love trying a bunch of new water sports in the protected bays, things like fishing, boating, skiing, kayaking, and sailing. And everyone loves a sunset cruise.

I'm Here, So What Else Can I See?

Kununurra is a good base for exploring East Kimberley. From here you should jump on a scenic flight to see the Bungle Bungle Ranges (known as the Bungles). You'll also fly over a number of Kimberley icons, including the Ord River Dam, Lake Kununurra and the of course Lake Argyle.

Hire a car and cruise the red dirt track to the tip of the Dampier Peninsula, here you'll find the stunning Cape Leveque. Marvel at the ochre cliffs, white beaches and fluro blue ocean.

Speaking of blue, the Buccaneer Archipelago’s 1000 rocky islands (named after a pirate!) are dotted throughout a picture perfect blue ocean. If you've ever wanted to learn how to fish, this is your dream spot. Yo-ho-ho.
