Water Play And Super Slides At Putney Park Playground

This playground located on the shore of Kissing Point Bay (near Ryde) is a great option for parents and kids during all of the warmer months as it has a free water-play area that’s great for splashing around and cooling off. Plus, it has the biggest super slide we have ever seen at a playground!

Fun For The Whole Family

For the adults, there is plenty of shady spots to sit while the kids enjoy the water play area or the small playground equipment. For the biggest kids there is a giant rope climbing tree, the biggest we’ve seen, however, it was almost too big for Miss 6 and she needed a helping hand from Dad. Active parents will enjoy climbing this one with the kids. There is also a small playground with a small slide and a mini tunnel which is easy to access for the toddlers. The playground equipment and rope tower are surrounded by lots of trees and shade, as well as covered picnic tables. The park also features a number of electric BBQs and wide-open spaces for picnics and ball games of all kinds.

Slip And Slide

Up in the water play area is the giant slide. Younger kids will probably need a parent to go with them on this, Miss 6 went by herself and loved it. It does require proficiency with stairs though as there are a lot of stairs to climb to get to the top. The water play area has heaps of shade thanks to the trees and the shade cloths over the area. There is one picnic bench for adults to sit on, as well as a number of large rocks good for sitting on scattered around the two splash pools. The water isn’t very deep so even young children can enjoy the water, but as always, even with shallow water, keep your eyes on the kids at all times.

In A Nutshell

Parking/cafes/toilets? There is plenty of parking and also a well-maintained toilet block that includes a baby changing facility. We didn’t see any cafe within walking distance but you could always grab a coffee from one of the coffee shops up the road.

What did the kids think? The kids loved the water-play area, this was definitely the highlight and the redeeming feature of the park. The beautiful natural surrounds were also great for exploring nature and looking for bugs & lizards.

Best moments? The super slide was a big hit with Miss 6 and Miss 4 couldn’t keep herself out of the water.

Top Tips

The playground opens on to the Parramatta River and the river is not fenced off, nor is the playground fenced, so extreme care should be used to keep an eye on young children so they don’t wander off and fall into the river. There are lots of lovely shady areas and picnic areas with electric BBQs to cater to all kinds of visitors and it would be a really lovely spot for a picnic. You can also take along the fishing rods for a spot of fishing in the river. Because of its natural setting, there are also plenty of ants, bugs and lizards and it would be a good bet that snakes would also visit the area in the warmer months too so just be alert for that.
