The Top High Schools in Sydney for the 2024 HSC

The 2024 HSC results are in, and it appears that North Sydney Boys High have secured the top spot for a second year after stealing the best high school in Sydney crown from James Ruse Agricultural High School in 2023. To give them their dues, James Ruse Agricultural High School did hold the top spot for an impressive 27 years!
North Sydney Boys High have secured the top high school spot thanks to their stellar HSC results with a superb 64.9 success rate.
The Top High Schools in Sydney for the 2024 HSC
The HSC results for 2024 are quite possibly the most highly-anticipated results of any HSC year as the class of 2024 is the biggest in Australian history. A record 70,000 students (the biggest cohort in NSW AND Australian history) sat for the 2024 HSC and achieved some pretty outstanding results, with 12 per cent of all course results in the top band, 42 per cent in the top two bands, and 74 per cent in the top three bands. Some 1,457 students have also featured on the All-round Achievers list, achieving results in the top band across 10 units of study, while 779 students were placed on the Top Achievers list for earning one or more of the top places, and a result in the highest band.
What also sets the class of 2024 apart is the fact that most of the students were in Year 8 and Year 9 during the lengthy school shutdown period of the Covid pandemic. As many parents will remember, Year 8 and Year 9 are significant formative years of high school, and missing out on a large part of in-person education during this time couldn't have been easy. It seems the class of 2024 didn't let lockdown deter them one bit as they've gone on to achieve highly commendable HSC results.
North Sydney Boys High are officially the best high school in Sydney for the 2024 HSC. The single-sex selective school in Crows Nest's rise to the top has come after an impressive 64.9 per cent success rate. Nearly 65 per cent of their HSC entries achieved a Band 6 result (a mark of 90 or above), narrowly eclipsing James Ruse Agricultural High School, which recorded an equally impressive 63 per cent of Band 6 entries.
More notable HSC results for 2024 have come from last year's high achievers, including Sydney Grammar School coming in third place with 56 per cent Band 6 results, and Normanhurst Boys High School climbing from 9th to 4th position with a 55 per cent success rate.

Top 10 High Schools in Sydney for 2024
To calculate the top high schools in Sydney for the 2024 HSC, the total number of top band (Band 6 or E4 for one-unit courses) results from a school are divided by the total number of completed HSC entries.
And the results are:
1. North Sydney Boys High School
2. James Ruse Agricultural High School
4. Normanhurst Boys High School
5. Reddam House
8. North Sydney Girls High School
10. Abbotsleigh
