The Top High Schools in Sydney for the 2023 HSC

The 2023 HSC results are in, and it appears that James Ruse Agricultural High School have given up their crown as the best high school in Sydney after an incredible 27 years at the top! North Sydney Boys High have trumped the agricultural high school for the first time thanks to excellent results from their advanced and extension programs across maths and English.

North Sydney Boys High is the top high school in Sydney for 2023.


North Sydney Boys High are officially the best high school in Sydney for the 2023 HSC. The single-sex selective school in Crows Nest's rise to the top has come after an impressive 69 per cent of its students' HSC entries achieved the Distinguished Achiever Badge. The Distinguished Achiever Badge is awarded to students who achieve a result in the highest band (Band 6 or Band E4) for one or more HSC courses. 

James Ruse Agricultural High School have slipped into second position with 50 per cent of its students receiving Distinguished Achiever Badges. More impressive HSC results for 2023 have come from last year's high achievers, including Baulkham Hills High School, North Sydney Girls High School, and Reddam House rounding out the top five high schools in Sydney for the 2023 HSC. 

The 2023 HSC results were released on 14 December 2023 after the 55,000 NSW students who sat for the HSC received their results. Public high schools have managed to hold the lion's share of the results for yet another year - of the top 10 high schools in Sydney for 2023, four are private, independent schools, and six are public.

To calculate the top high schools in Sydney for the 2023 HSC, the total number of top band (Band 6 or E4 for one-unit courses) results from a school are divided by the total number of completed HSC entries.
