Italy was one of the countries hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic, suffering a debilitating blow to its economy and overall wellbeing. Thankfully, the European powerhouse is slowly lifting its restriction laws and looking to rebuild its beautiful nation.

Sicily, the largest Mediterranean island and one of Italy's most stunning seaside cities, is taking that task seriously, proposing an enticing new plan. It is offering to pay for a portion of your costs, including a third of hotel expenses and half of the airfares if you holiday on the island after the pandemic. Not a bad incentive to visit a destination known for its white-sand beaches, crystal clear ocean, picturesque landscape and delicious food.

Sicily

Sicily is one of the nations main tourist hotspots and has therefore suffered a massive loss of tourism dollars, reporting an AUD$1.7 billion deficit. They are investing €50 million into their initiative to bring travellers back.

Sicily

Of course, Sicily is currently closed to tourists, and Aussies dreaming of an overseas holiday are expected to be waiting until 2021, but once the borders are open, dust off your passport and head to Visit Sicily to nab a voucher. There will also be free tickets to museums and archaeological sites up for grabs.

Buon viaggio!
