Mamas, WE FEEL YOU. The struggle of wanting to work out but not having anyone to watch your kids is real and is probably the main reason cited for not getting much exercise after having a baby.

Well, no more! Luckily, there are a tonne of gyms and fitness groups that cater to parents—providing high-quality childcare and crèches, or the option to workout with your baby in tow (and spoiler: babies make an excellent dumbbell substitute.)

Here’s where to head to for your next child-friendly sweat sesh in Sydney. Mums (and yes Dads we're looking at you too), you have no excuses now!

Body Beyond Baby

Body Beyond Baby was designed by mums, for mums and is run by mums. They have trainers throughout Sydney offering baby-friendly group exercise sessions, and a few of these also offer onsite childcare, helping women to regain their sense of self and body confidence and enjoy some much-needed ‘me’ time. If your little one simply wants to be with mum, they’re more than welcome to join in the workout!

All sessions are structured around the fact that women have gone through the epic physical undertaking that is childbirth, so things like pelvic floor and abdominal separation are front of mind when designing the workouts. Add to this a range of cardiovascular and resistance exercises and you have the ideal, well-rounded workout that’s perfect for the post-natal period.

YMCA UNSW

With an impressive complex at UNSW in Kensington, YMCA is the perfect place to plan your return to fitness. Not only does the complex boast a health club, 50m indoor heated pool, steam room, squash courts, group fitness studio and a whole lot more.

The Y has also got the jackpot for parents - a morning crèche which enables you to get your workout done and dusted all before lunch.  It’s just $10.00 an hour for each child.

Fitness Playground

Offering pretty much every type of class you could think of plus world-class gym facilities, Fitness Playground is the perfect place to dip your toe back into the workout waters after having a baby. And the best part? Their Marrickville location has an on-site crèche, which costs just $5 an hour, so you can leave your little one in great hands while you get your sweat on.

There’s a Spin City spin studio, a Mind-Body studio, weights area, cardio zone, lifting platforms and lux, boutique bathrooms to have a solo shower and spruce up!

Fit Mamma

The perfect place to start if you’re on a quest to reignite your passion for fitness after having a baby, Fit Mamma knows that returning to exercise post-baby can be both difficult and daunting. They’re on a mission to ensure you feel empowered whilst performing a range of workouts devised by qualified PT’s, educated in post-natal exercise.

The indoor, on-site dedicated crèche spaces at both Coogee and Bellevue Hill ensure peace of mind that your little one is in the best possible care, while you do something positive and powerful for both your body and mind. It truly is the best of both worlds!

Freshstart Fitness

If you’re located on the Northern Beaches, Freshstart Fitness is the ideal place to kick-start your new workout routine. The gym boasts all of the usual suspects; weights, cardio and stretching areas plus functional and outdoor training spaces, alongside more than 40 gym classes to choose from—all held in an air-conditioned group fitness room.

Even better than all that, however, is the 1 hour and 1.5-hour crèche options for children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age; where qualified carers provide a fun, creative and welcoming environment to all of its mini attendees.

Virgin Active's Club V

Active mamas and papas, listen up. Virgin Active Moore Park offers a range of classes includes yoga, reformer pilates, cycle, grid training, barre and a whole lot more, plus a pool, heated health spa and sauna, and luxury amenities like GHD straighteners (it’s the little things…) making it a real-life one-stop health and wellness shop. There’s also an on-site climbing wall, AND, the piece de resistance, Club V.

Club V offers short-term crèche facilities in a safe and supervised environment, so you can enjoy peace of mind whilst you throw yourself into a workout. Kickboxing class, anyone?
