The Sydney Airport Lost Property Auction is a much-loved annual event that lets bargain hunters snap up everything from laptops and Kindles to designer handbags, cameras, and even a giant teddy bear.

And it’s all for a good cause. This year’s auction proceeds will make a real splash, with funds going directly towards free swimming lessons and water safety programs for families struggling due to the rising cost of living. Partnering with the Inner West Council Aquatics team, Sydney Airport will help provide thousands of swimming lessons to kids who might otherwise miss out.

This year’s treasure trove of lost-and-not-found items includes a mix of the useful, the luxurious, and the unexpected.

  • 200 earbuds/headphones
  • 60 Kindles
  • 100 pairs of sunglasses
  • 250 pieces of jewellery & watches
  • 80 handbags & wallets
  • 50 cameras
  • 40 gaming consoles
  • 50 bottles of perfume
  • 40 hair dryers & straighteners
  • 30 plush toys, including a 90cm giant teddy bear
  • 10 boxed LEGO sets
  • 4 bikes, 3 surfboards & 2 sets of golf clubs

Some of the quirky finds on the list include a vacuum cleaner, a frying pan and air fryer, a coffee machine and binoculars, a violin, an electric keyboard, and even a full Lord of the Rings book collection.

What Happens to All the Lost Stuff?

Sydney Airport’s Lost Property team works year-round to reunite passengers with their belongings. In 2024, they welcomed over 41 million travellers and successfully returned more than 7,000 lost items.

But when things go unclaimed, they don’t go to waste. Items are either donated to charities or included in this annual auction, turning forgotten items into community gold. Checked baggage isn’t included in the auction!
