Whether you're hitting the highway for a mini road trip or ducking across town to see the grandparents, make sure you’re driving safely, because double demerit points will be in force across New South Wales from Thursday 17 April to Monday 21 April 2025, and then again for the Anzac Day long weekend, from Thursday 24 April to Sunday 27 April 2025.

This means certain traffic offences will carry double the usual demerit points over the holiday period, including:

• Speeding

• Illegal use of mobile phones while driving

• Not wearing a seatbelt or wearing it incorrectly

• Driving with passengers not wearing seatbelts or wearing them incorrectly

• Riding a motorcycle without a helmet

While the fines remain the same, the impact on your licence can be far greater—so it's worth staying alert, slowing down, and playing it safe.
