Stay Safe This Easter: Double Demerits in Effect Across NSW

The Easter long weekend is one of the busiest times on NSW roads, with families heading off on getaways, visiting relatives, or just enjoying some well-earned time off. But amidst all the fun, it’s important to remember that road safety takes centre stage—especially when little ones are on board.

Whether you're hitting the highway for a mini road trip or ducking across town to see the grandparents, make sure you’re driving safely, because double demerit points will be in force across New South Wales from Thursday 17 April to Monday 21 April 2025, and then again for the Anzac Day long weekend, from Thursday 24 April to Sunday 27 April 2025.

Stay Safe This Easter: Double Demerits in Effect Across NSW

Easter Double Demerits
Double Demerits in effect on NSW roads this Easter holiday period

This means certain traffic offences will carry double the usual demerit points over the holiday period, including:

  • Speeding

  • Illegal use of mobile phones while driving

  • Not wearing a seatbelt or wearing it incorrectly

  • Driving with passengers not wearing seatbelts or wearing them incorrectly

  • Riding a motorcycle without a helmet

While the fines remain the same, the impact on your licence can be far greater—so it's worth staying alert, slowing down, and playing it safe.

With roads expected to be busier than usual, it's a great idea to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and take regular breaks. After all, there’s no rush when the destination is quality time with the people you love.
