Eastwood's Somerville Park has had a schmick makeover, which includes a new playground, new multipurpose courts, upgraded sports fields, outdoor fitness stations, and more.

Eastwood residents are set to enjoy several new amenities and improvements at Somerville Park, as part of a $4.3 million upgrade project. This initiative, proudly funded by the NSW Government's Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program in association with the City of Parramatta Council, aims to transform the park into a vibrant and inclusive space that aligns with the notion of a 'shared backyard'.
The proposed upgrades are designed to deliver various environmental, recreational, and community benefits, supporting the area's growing population. The improvements stem from the council's 'Play Your Way' consultation back in November 2022, ensuring the upgrades meet the community's needs and desires.
Exciting Upgrades
So, what's in store for the new-look Somerville Park? Loads, including:
- New multipurpose court: The park will feature a new multipurpose sports court, providing more options for active recreation.
- Inclusive playground: A new inclusive playground will cater to all ages, including a dedicated nature play area, ensuring fun and engaging activities for children and families.
- Enhanced accessibility: The car park will be re-lined, and existing disabled parking spaces will be upgraded to meet current compliance standards, making the park more accessible for everyone.
- Improved connectivity: A concrete path connection to Pearl Avenue to encourage walking and improve overall connectivity within the park.
- Enhanced lifestyle facilities: A new concrete circuit path around the oval to promote an active lifestyle, perfect for walking, jogging, and other fitness activities.
- Outdoor fitness stations: Two new outdoor fitness stations.
- Environmental improvements: The existing riparian area will be enhanced, contributing to the park's environmental sustainability.
- Enhanced sports facilities: Upgraded sports field lighting will improve visibility for evening activities, plus the existing rugby and training fields will be re-lined for optimal play conditions.
