Sydney is sprawling with gorgeous parks and beaches that are perfect for families. But sometimes the best parks are missing one of the most important facilities: barbecues. We’ve combed through some of the most stunning, family friendly parks and found the best BBQ spots in Sydney!

1. Prince Alfred Park

This historic park has completed its long overdue upgrade and is well worth a visit. The new upgrades include new barbecue and picnic areas that have custom-designed tables and seating. It’s a first come, first serve system so show up early. There are also tennis and basketball courts and a really sweet little children’s playground featuring beautiful, hand-crafted rides.

2. Centennial Park

With 5 great playgrounds, plenty of shade, picnic tables and BBQs, this park is the perfect spot for a good meal. There isn’t a booking policy for the BBQs so if you’re going on a sunny weekend, go early! If you don’t manage to nab a BBQ, you can BYO your barbeque gear. It must be on legs and it can’t be placed directly on the grass.

3. Glebe Foreshore Parks

Have a wander around the Glebe Foreshore Walk and take your pick of one of the beautiful waterside parks that it encircles. There is plenty of space to settle in for a relaxed picnic or BBQ with the family and enjoy the great views of Anzac Bridge. The parks provide plenty of opportunity for both high energy recreation and lazy lolling about on lawns. There are kids’ adventure playgrounds, native wetlands, beaches and off-leash areas for dogs. The foreshore walk takes you to the Fish Markets, so if you’re feeling energetic reward yourself with a Boxing Day lunch of fresh seafood!

4. Chowder Bay, Headland Park

Located on the ever popular Taronga Zoo to Balmoral Beach walking track, this little cove also has a kids’ playground at Clifton Reserve and plenty of lovely picnic and BBQ spots. The surrounding park offers lots of space for running and a protected and netted beach perfect for an afternoon dip.

5. Clontarf Beach

This is one of Sydney’s best spots for a family day out. It is a fabulous spot-right on the foreshore of Middle Harbour with BBQs (4 double electric & 2 single electric BBQs), toilets, cafe and netted swimming area (in the harbour). There is also a well equipped and shaded playground with activities for both toddlers and older children and a toddler bike path around the sandy play area.

 

6. Shelly Beach, Manly

With two free electic barbeques, golden sand and crystal clear waters, this is an ideal spot for scuba diving, snorkeling and a delicious meal. There’s also a large park area that has easy pram access. There is a large grassed area, plenty of shade, nearby toilets and a fully fenced playground.

Enjoy the perfect combination of a beach and park at Shelley Beach. With a fenced playground that has a liberty swing for children with disability, large grassed area, several BBQs and a very safe rock pool, it’ll be easy to have a great day with the kids.
