Say hello to the newest KU Children’s Services centre in Victoria, a brand new purpose-built Kindergarten, located at Koo Wee Rup Primary School.

Prepare Your Child for a Great Transition to School at KU Koo Wee Rup Kindergarten

The KU Koo Wee Rup Kindergarten, which opened in January 2024, is architecturally designed, features large indoor and outdoor environments and is the perfect transition kindergarten for your child who have their sights set on the primary school in a couple of years. Not to mention, a handy drop-off for parents who already have children at the primary school!

The kindergarten is suitable for 3- to 5-year-olds located on the outskirts of Melbourne in the Cardinia Shire Council in Victoria (south-east of Melbourne between Western Port and the Yarra Ranges).

The stunning new kindergarten is housed in a state-of-the-art modular building featuring two huge rooms for play-based learning and a large outdoor play area for exploring the natural world. Imagine all the fun your child will have as they get hands-on with sand, grass, water, mud, leaves, stones and twigs - in addition to all that development of their gross motor skills. We also love that students from the secondary school were involved in the building of garden beds. That’s the KU touch, right there!

Dedicated to Your Child’s Unique Learning Journey

KU Children’s Services goes beyond childcare delivering the highest quality early childhood education in the sector championed by their experienced and caring teachers and educators.

The kindergarten is unique to other early educational centres in that they have two groups - split into three and four-year-olds - offering sessional Kindergarten programs. Having this high level of attention to their learning journey encourages your child to become confident and engaged with their educators. You can just imagine that in this small group setting how connected and safe they will feel with their teachers and their peers. KU Children’s Services understands that this also grows their sense of self, trust and confidence.

Koo Wee Rup Kindergarten’s Area of Focus

All KU Children’s Services are encouraged to develop an area of focus, which could be anything from sustainability, a new language or understanding more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. At KU Koo Wee Rup Kindergarten, their focus is on encouraging children to be active learners. This not only prepares them for the transition to school but it develops their independence and decision-making skills. Through the inquiry-based learning programs, your child will be active in the learning process, and given the opportunity to collaborate, research, investigate, record and revisit their discoveries.

The KU Legacy

Established in 1895, KU Children’s Services has over 129 years of experience in nurturing and enriching children’s minds and has become one of Australia’s most experienced and respected providers. They are proudly not-for-profit and are committed to delivering high-quality inclusive play-based learning programs. Part of the ‘KU Difference’ is in their high level of retention of their university-trained early childhood teachers. This means they really look after their team, supporting their growth and development, in the same way that they look after your children.

KU Children’s Services Encourage Children to Play, Think, Question and Learn

At the helm is Director Melissa Luxford, a university-qualified early childhood and primary teacher with over 14 years of experience in the field. She is devoted to nurturing life-long learners, and like all KU Children’s Services centres, follows the high-quality inclusive play-based learning programs. It’s part of the KU fabric to provide opportunities for kids to grow and thrive. As they like to say, at KU “your child will have a voice”.

KU Koo Wee Rup Kindergarten is currently offering free kindergarten sessions to 3 and 4-year-olds on Mondays and Tuesdays, with the aim to increase session offerings throughout the year as interest grows.
