Planet-Friendly Orange Juice Vending Machines Have Landed In Sydney

  • All Ages

Love yourself a hefty dose of vitamin C? Love doing your bit for the environment? Your perfect beverage has arrived—in the form of For Purpose Co’s Juice For Good vending machines in Sydney.

Dotted around the city, these machines aim to encourage healthy choices among consumers, whilst combating waste and supporting Aussie farmers at the same time. We’d call that a trifecta of success!

The Inspiration

In an attempt to reduce the amount of produce that is grown and then discarded by commercial buyers, this new wave of vending machines are stocked with oranges that don’t make the cut into stores or cafes, and since arriving in Sydney in September last year—close to eight tonnes of less-than-optimum-looking oranges have been turned into fresh, healthy and delicious juice. What a result!

For Purpose Co told Broadsheet , “supporting local Aussie farmers is essential to our social business. We source oranges that might be rejected due to blemishes on the skin or imperfections – oranges [which] are not ‘orange’ enough in colour and have a tinge of green or have bruises and scars. Instead of these going to waste, we use them in our vending machines.”

The Machines

For just $4—which let’s face it, is a bit of a steal when cafes or juice bars tend to charge at least $7—you can get 320-370 mL worth of juice, with all profits going towards Oz harvest projects that work to minimise food waste and offer education around the subject.

Freshly squeezing OJ right in front of your very eyes, these machines are already juicing up a storm across some lucky Sydney locations. Birkenhead Point, Oz Harvest’s headquarters in Alexandria, Darling Square, Market Street in the CBD and The Cannery in Rosebery are among the first recipients of one of these epic machines, and there are plans to roll out a further 18 machines across NSW this year. We can't wait!
