We love a change of scenery and a fresh open space for kids to explore, and this awesome new playground hits the spot. The popular community recreational space in Sydney’s inner west is bursting with new life following a vibrant, creative reconstruction.

St Peters Fences Playground

St Peters Fences Playground is a striking artist-designed art/play space at Simpson Park, St Peters, and features a host of new equipment including climbable fence structures and playground equipment, made from recycled materials. The interactive and inclusive space also includes swings, slides, monkey bars, planks and a wheel wall.

The cool retro sandstone and brickwork pays homage to the quirky character of the neighbourhood and creates a unique environment for children to immerse themslves. Local front fences were reclaimed and reconstructed, and linked together with old play equipment, to integrate the sculpture park with a children's playground.

St Peters Fences Playground

The St Peters Fences Playground was designed and constructed by artist Mike Hewson in collaboration with Inner West Council and the wider community. WestConnex CEO Andrew Head said “Students from St Peters Public School, located nearby, worked with artist Mike Hewson in the design of the playground,” Mr Head said. “Now you can see the students’ vision really come to life.”

With a contemporary artist at the helm and the all-important kids seal of approval, you know you're in for something special at this innovative and imaginative playground. Watch the construction process and hear why the kids love it:

Simpson Park is a part of the WestConnex Public Art Program, Canal to Creek, which features 18 commissioned artworks, including sculptures, play spaces, murals and immersive lighting installations within new and existing parklands.
