Melbourne's Best High Tea For Kids

  • Family

By: Claire Halliday, ellaslist

A sense of occasion, a reason to put on some special clothes, a grand setting PLUS some delightfully delectable morsels to add some sweet pleasure to your tastebuds…
Welcome to High Tea.

It’s an old-school institution as a lovely ladies’ day but today’s high tea has evolved to offer something for everyone – both old and young, and boys and girls alike. Child-friendly isn’t the first thing that pops into one’s head when you think of finger sandwiches and petits fours but it’s time to think again and go back for seconds (and thirds).

Melbourne’s child-friendly high teas are waiting for you…

1. The Langham

Extend your pinkie in sweet style at one of Melbourne’s finest hotels. Each school holidays, High Tea is a family-friendly affair where the signature pink is swapped for something the kids will love. In the past themes have included Despicable Me with Tic Tac Minion themed cupcakes, Minion marshmallows, Dru and Gru cookies, Minion macarons, Despicable Me sausage roll boxes, cucumber ribbon sandwiches, banana muffin, scones, fairy bread, hot chocolate and blue cordial (of course!).

2. The Hotel Windsor

It’s a Melbourne institution, laced with tradition that goes back generations. According to the hotels own website, it’s served more than 2,000,000 guests since 1883.

The selection is a fine one, with three-tiered trays laden with finger sandwiches, savoury canapés, exquisite French pastries and delicious scones. To wash it down, adults can enjoy a glass of

French sparkling wine on arrival and sample the delights of the freshly-brewed specialty teas throughout the sitting.

Grand? Yes, indeed. And on weekends, the kids will love the chocolate fountain and the addition of a dessert buffet.
