Mark your calendars for Wednesday 11 June 2025—it's time to play! The United Nations’ International Day of Play is a global celebration of the joy, creativity, and sheer fun that play brings into children’s lives.

But this day isn’t just about games and giggles (though there’ll be plenty of those)—it’s also a reminder of how important play really is. Whether it’s building a cubby house, playing tag, or dreaming up imaginary worlds, play helps kids grow in all the right ways. It builds brains, boosts confidence, and teaches everything from problem-solving to sharing.
That’s why the UN created this special day—to champion every child’s right to play, as promised in Article 31 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Sign the Play Pledge
Playgroup NSW is imploring everyone to sign the Play Pledge to honour the International Day of Play.
Signing endorses that every child has the right to play, and that play should be accessible, inclusive, and supported across every community in NSW.
