IGS to Unveil State of the Art Kindergarten Centre in January 2025

In January 2025, IGS will open the doors to its brand-new Kindergarten Centre, a thoughtfully designed space where its youngest learners will begin their educational journey in an environment crafted to inspire, nurture, and ignite curiosity.

Located within the School’s Wright Building, the new IGS Kindergarten Centre spans Levels 1 and 2, and includes a newly designed outdoor play area, ensuring that every aspect of a child’s early school experience is enriched by innovative and supportive surroundings and fostering a nurturing haven that sparks imagination and growth from day one.

This state-of-the-art facility is the brainchild of the internationally renowned Australian architectural firm BVN, who mastered the forward-thinking design that harmonises with the natural and cultural context of their settings. At IGS, BVN has drawn deeply from the historical significance of the land, honouring the traditional custodians of the land, the Gadigal. Before the arrival of European settlers, this site was a vibrant landscape of sandy beaches, salt marshes, and mangrove forests, with a creek running through it. BVN’s design artfully integrates these elements, reflecting the creek shoreline’s historical role as a gathering place, and creating a learning environment that is as meaningful as it is beautiful.

Principal Ms Shauna Colnan expressed her excitement about the new Centre:

The Kindergarten Centre is one of our ten initiatives from the IGS Strategic Plan Into the World. It's part of our action to secure, improve and expand the campus for the benefit of our students. With BVN's partnership and our community's spirit, we're crafting magic together, creating a Kindergarten Centre that will help us facilitate the exciting transformation of Early Childhood Education that is underway at IGS and across Australia.

Set to become a vibrant hub of exploration and learning, the new Kindergarten Centre will provide a safe, enchanting, and nurturing environment for children embarking on their first year of school. It’s a space where every detail has been carefully considered to foster the growth, development, and joyful curiosity of our youngest students, laying a strong foundation for their future educational journeys.
