Penrith's Gipps Street Recreation Precinct is Now Open

Penrith's Gipps Street Recreation Precinct is bringing all the joy this spring as it officially opened to the public on 31 August 2024.

The Recreation Precinct is an all-ages playground paradise, complete with a ginormous water play zone that's set to be the chill spot this year. Imagine zipping down the flying fox, conquering climbing towers, and bouncing on trampolines. Oh, and for the sun-shy squad, there's plenty of shade to keep you cool.

Construction on the youth precinct is complete, with a slick 245-metre pump track and skate bowls for all skill levels ready for action. Night owls can rejoice because floodlighting means your sessions can keep going after dark. And for the multi-talented, there are dual multi-sport courts primed for action.

Plus, there are parkour setups, a ping-pong table, and chill zones with public art, seating, and shelters. Not to forget, essential amenities like toilets, because let’s be real, they're important.

The 32-hectare sport and recreation destination offers sports fields, netball courts, cricket nets, a dog park for your furry pals, and a whole lot more—making it a one-stop shop for outdoor fun.

With a cool $44.5 million poured into this project, thanks to Penrith Council and NSW Government tag team, it's all about bringing state-of-the-art vibes to your doorstep.

Penrith Mayor Todd Carney said the precinct has been a shared vision of both the Council and the community for a long time.

"It’s been remarkable to watch the transformation of this site into a recreational space unlike anything else we’ve seen in Penrith," Cr Carney said.

"The Gipps Street Recreation Precinct will be a community hub for generations to come and is something Penrith can be truly proud of. I can't wait to share it with the community and look forward to seeing everyone at the grand opening."

NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Western Sydney Prue Car said it is great to see this long-awaited precinct finally come to life.

"Just over two years after turning the sod, the construction for this landmark destination is almost complete," Car said.

"The local community will be able to enjoy these state-of-the-art facilities, and I cannot wait to see this part of Western Sydney transform into a hub of activity."
