Alright, Penrith peeps, get set to kickflip your way into excitement and make a splash in style because your hood is about to get a whole lot cooler.

Word on the street (Gipps Street, to be exact) is that the Gipps Street Recreation Precinct is gearing up to be the new go-to spot for families, teens, and tots alike, and it's on track for completion soon.

Penrith's Gipps Street Recreation Precinct Will Open for Spring

Penrith's Gipps Street Recreation Precinct is on track to bring all the joy this spring, with completion just around the corner. Pegged for completion in August 2024, Gipps Street will be an all-ages playground paradise, complete with a ginormous water play zone that's going to be the chill spot this year. Imagine zipping down flying foxes, conquering climbing towers, and bouncing on trampolines. Oh, and for the sun-shy squad, there’s plenty of shade to keep you cool.

Construction on the youth precinct is also nearing completion, with a slick 245-metre pump track and skate bowls for all skill levels well and truly shaping up.

Night owls can rejoice because floodlighting means your sessions can keep going after dark. And for the multi-talented, there are dual multi-sport courts primed for action.

Plus, there are parkour setups, ping-pong tables, and chill zones with public art, seating, and shelters on the way. Not to forget, essential amenities like toilets, because let’s be real, they’re important.

Sports and Splashing are on the Agenda

Once this 32-hectare playground is fully up and running, expect lit sports fields, netball courts, cricket nets, a dog park for your furry pals, and a whole lot more—making it a one-stop shop for outdoor fun. With a cool $44.5 million poured into this project, thanks to Penrith Council and NSW Government tag team, it’s all about bringing state-of-the-art vibes to your doorstep.

Penrith’s Mayor, Todd Carney, is all about creating spaces that get you moving and grooving together. "We listened to the community who told us play areas, and particularly water play, was most important to them in the design of Gipps Street," Cr Carney said.

"The community also voiced strong support for more sports courts and a skate park with a pump track, so I’m thrilled that Council is delivering this plus plenty more for teenagers to enjoy in the youth precinct", he added.

Minister for Western Sydney, Prue Car can’t hide her excitement either. "The precinct is a great example of governments – local and state – working together for the benefit of the local community who will soon be able to enjoy state-of-the-art facilities right on their doorstep."
