There are few places more iconic in Melbourne for a day of fun than Luna Park, and it absolutely lived up to the hype!

We visited as a family of five (with three kids 10 and under) and catapulted straight into a day of ear‑to‑ear grins, sugar highs, rides and sunshine that we're still talking about.

ellaslist Reviews: A Thrilling Family Day Out at Luna Park Melbourne

The Right Size For Big Fun

ellaslist Reviews Luna Park Melbourne
Melbourne delivered a day of sunshine for our Luna Park adventures.

One of the first things we noticed and loved was the park's size. Luna Park Melbourne is big enough to feel like an adventure, yet compact enough that no one disappears into the distance (parent panic averted!). We could split up, swap ride stories and reconnect in minutes – no frantic head‑counts required. There's also a reassuring sense of safety, even when the kids darted from one attraction to the next, it never felt like they were too far away. Everything is within easy walking distance, which saves your energy for more thrills.

Rides That Match Every Kid's Mojo

The Carousel

Luna Park has a great mix of rides for every age and bravery level. Our youngest crew member took a victory lap on the Carousel, floated in the Moon Balloons and giggled on the Happy Swing.

Meanwhile, the older two sprinted to the scream machines, and I even joined in, too! Power Surge spun us silly (my new fave), Pharaoh's Curse flipped us upside‑down, Enterprise twirled our tummies and Supernova launched us sky‑high. Lines zipped along so fast we barely had time to catch our breath – or our sanity – before the next round.

Ready to soar!

The Great Scenic Railway (the world's longest‑running wooden coaster!) rattled and rolled us above St Kilda's sparkling foreshore. It's not the fastest ride in the park, but there's something so special about being part of a centuries-old experience.

Easy‑Peasy Logistics

Winter sun? Check. Paid parking literally across the street? Double check. Luna Park's vibe is laid-back, spacious and surprisingly crowd-free. There are plenty of chill zones to regroup and snack before diving back into the mayhem.

Fuel For the Fun

Luna Park Melbourne review
Plenty of room for everyone to grab a snack.

Classic theme‑park treats – hot dogs, fairy floss, ice‑cream – won't empty your wallet, and there's loads of seating so lunch isn't a juggling act. You're free to bring your own snacks and water bottles, too, which is a huge plus when you're out with a hungry crew or catering to dietary requirements. Want a bigger feast? St Kilda's cafés and beachside fish and chips are a short stroll away.

Party on a Tram (Yes, Really!)

We were intrigued to see that Luna Park also host kids' birthday parties in The Party Tram 96, a beautifully restored W-Class Tram with retro booth seating. Melbourne kids – prepare for next‑level party bragging rights.
