A New Beachside Playground Opens in Sydney

  • All Ages

Clontarf Playground has recently been in the news for two rather thrilling reasons - the first is that they recently discovered some bones at the site of the old Clontarf Playground, and the second is that they were building a brand-new state-of-the-art playground when they found the bones!

You'll be very pleased to hear that the bones weren't human so not of concern, and even more pleased to hear that the new playground they've been constructing for a few months is finally open!

What's New at the New Clontarf Playground

Clontarf Playground is one of the most popular playgrounds on the Northern Beaches because of its utterly desirable location right next to Clontarf Beach and the picturesque waters of Middle Harbour. The netted harbour pool is a summer favourite for kids of all ages and there's plenty of soft sand for families to grab a spot in the sun and enjoy a day at the beach.

The new Clontarf Playground has replaced the existing playground that, if we're being completely honest, was looking a little worse-for-wear. The location of the new equipment is in the same spot (adjacent to the beach and right next to Clonny's on the Beach), so you don't have to change much of your routine to visit the new playground.

The new digs at Clontarf Playground have been designed to be for all ages and all abilities with nods to a cool aquatic theme. The new features of the playground include:

  • a rope pendulum swing
  • spinning bowls
  • large fishing platform
  • a sea reed climbing net
  • new slide
  • themed seahorse toddler sand play activity area
  • cute sandstone hermit crab retreat.

The previous playground floor was sand-based (and often littered with leaves!) so we're thrilled to report that the new playspace has soft matting and bark instead of sand - yippee!

Other Amenities

Clontarf Beach
The beautiful waters at Clontarf Beach are hard to beat.

Parking comes easy at Clontarf Reserve with parking adjacent to the beach and cafe. Weekends obviously get very busy so plan ahead and arrive a little early to nab a great spot.

The beach has a netted area to keep the kids safe and while the beach is unpatrolled, the waves are small and easy to manage with little ones. Shade from the nearby trees comes and goes throughout the day so you've got to rely on luck for a shady spot, or perhaps bring your own umbrella!

Everyone's favourite local cafe, Clonny's on the Beach is still serving up kiosk fare and delicious coffees to the masses. Clonny's is attached to Bosk, an elegant restaurant that's only open for bookings.

Toilet facilities are available at the reserve and include changing rooms, showers and toilets.
