If there’s one thing we appreciate in Brisbane it’s a good swim. Whether you’re trying to keep cool when it’s sweltering outside, or you’re keen to swim in winter without freezing your bits off, an indoor pool provides a nice stable environment all year round.

Here are six of the best:

Spring Hill Baths

Spring Hill Baths are a Brisbane institution, and so charming, you’ll want to come back again and again. The 25-yard (about 23-metre) indoor pool is surrounded by brightly painted change rooms, and the pool offers swimming lessons, as well as aqua aerobics and yoga.

Website: Spring Hill Baths
Where: 14 Torrington Street, Spring Hill
When: Monday – Thursday 6:30am to 7pm, Friday 6:30am to 6pm, Saturday 8am to 5pm, Sunday 8am to 5pm
Cost: $2.50 - $5.70

Redcliffe War Memorial Pool

This is a bit of a local secret, with not many people knowing about the indoor pool. During summer, you’ll see people in Redcliffe swim at the Settlement Cove Lagoon or even the beach. But this venue boasts two indoor heated learn-to-swim pools, as well as outdoor: a 50-metre, eight-lane heated pool, a smaller learn-to-swim pool, a baby wading pool, a barbecue and playground equipment.

Where: Sydney Street, Redcliffe
When: See website for seasonal hours
Price: $10

Yeronga Park Swimming Pool

Most of the Yeronga Pool facilities are outdoors, but it does have a wonderful heated learn-to-swim and hydrotherapy pool that is heated all year round. Yeronga also has a kids’ club where your kids can be cared for while you go for a swim… or just sit in the café and enjoy a coffee and a bit of peace. Ahhhhh.

Runcorn Aquatic Centre

The Runcorn Aquatic Centre features a 25m heated outdoor pool and a 20m indoor program pool, as well as change rooms. And if you plan it well, you can drop your kids off for their lessons and then enjoy a coffee in the café while they learn.

Website: City Aquatics and Health
Where: 37 Bonemill Road, Runcorn
When: Monday – Thursday 5:30am to 8pm, Friday 5:30am to 6pm, Saturday 6am to 5pm, Sunday 8am to 5pm

Brisbane Aquatic Centre, Chandler

The Sleeman Sports Complex, as it’s known, is a state-of-the-art swimming complex, but it’s also just a fun place to visit and have a swim. It has an 25-metre heated indoor pool and slide, as well as disabled access, a dive pool, and café. There’s also a market in the carpark on weekends.

Website: Sleeman Sports Complex
Where: Corner Old Cleveland and Tilley roads, Chandler
When: Subject to seasonal changes – check with venue
Cost: $5.70 for adults and $4.70 for children
