In a bid to make books more accessible to all Australian families, Big W is giving every child the chance to take home a classic storybook for free when they visit their local Big W store. A new title will be given away each week for 8 weeks starting Thursday, September 19th.

Publishers of the 8-book titles, Scholastic Australia, revealed in its 2015 Australian Kids & Family Reading Report that 86% of Aussie kids enjoy being read books aloud at home, with the main reason being that it is a special time shared with parents. This is why Big W are giving you the opportunity to collect 12 books in store, with no purchase necessary.

The connection between access to books and the child’s future success and wellbeing is very well established. Research indicates that just 10 minutes of reading time a day can expose a young child to over 600,000 words in just one year, positively impacting childhood literacy.

The books have been selected for kids aged between 5 - 8 years who are learning to read and looking for that first chapter book experience.

They've chosen 8 titles by Australian Authors to appeal to Aussie kids covering indigenous, city and country deomographics.

Simply go to your nearest Big W store, ask the door greeter for your free book, and enjoy reading the book of the week with your child! The 8-book range kicks off with Cyclone Fever by Sally Morgan.
