There's no denying that most of us are ocean enthusiasts. Beach days are the remedy for the everyday routine, where building memories is as important as building sand sculptures. Living along a coastline as stunning as NSW ensures there's always a breathtaking beach to fill our days with the rhythmic symphony of the ocean waves.
If you're a family with young kids, seeking out a beach with sensibly calm waves is no doubt high on your list of priorities. Lucky for you, the beaches with the calmest waves in Australia were recently ranked and not one but three of Australia's calmest beaches are located right here in NSW!
Three of Australia's Calmest Beaches are in NSW
While we don't like to play favourites with our NSW beaches (we love them all!), there are days when choosing a small-waves beach over a surf beach just gives us that much-needed respite from the chaos of life, and turns out we're not the only ones.
Beachgoers the world over are continually seeking out the world's best calm-water beaches, so much so that Hawaiianslands.com have analysed millions of online reviews to decipher which beaches have been hailed as offering the calmest waters in the world. The method calculated the number of times the phrase "calm waters" was used on popular travel site Tripadvisor to rank the top beaches in the world.
Baby Beach on the island of Maui in Hawaii took out the number one spot with 27.82 per cent of the reviews of the beach mentioning its "calm waters". Ten Bay Beach in the Bahamas came in second place (22.88 per cent), followed by beaches in Jamaica, Uruguay, and Greece. And as for the Land Down Under, the top 10 calmest beaches in Australia were ranked and Jimmy's Beach in NSW came out on top - go the Blues!
Jimmy's Beach is officially the beach with the calmest waters in Australia with 12.28 per cent of traveller reviews mentioning the soothingly calm waters at this tranquil spot in Hawks Nest. Lagoon Beach at Lord Howe Island (yes, it's part of NSW!) ranked seventh at 7.69 per cent, and Shelly Beach in Manly came in at number nine with 6.82 per cent. Not too shabby!
