  • Parents Only

If you're planning a night out with the girls but want to make it a bit different to your usual dinner, here's a handful of events and hot spots worth checking out. There's something for every mum here.

1. Spring Gin Fling

Secret Foodies are taking over a hidden rooftop for an afternoon of good food, tunes, drinks and chilled out vibes. Arrive in your finest pastel attire and enjoy the DJ playing tunes all afternoon - the cocktails and gin & tonics will flow courtesy of Hayman's Gin, Adelaide Hills Distillery and Fever Tree. Roaming canapes inspired by the fresh flavours of spring will add the final ingredient to the perfect afternoon. The event is being held on 27 October and the location will be sent via sms 2 hourr before - how exciting! Find out more here.

2. Try A New Rooftop Bar

Spring is the perfect season for enjoying cocktails on a Sydney rooftop. We recommend the hot new Hyde Park House which has a stunning rooftop bar (see pic above) and a modern Japanese menu. Also brand new is the Manly Greenhouse with spectacular views of Manly beach and, as the name suggests, plenty of plants, courtesy of local plant specialists, The Plant Room, and Krelle. And then of course you've got the classic Coogee Pavillion for sunset champas with a stellar view.

3. Chicks at the Flicks

This isn't your your average night at the movies. Arrive at 6pm so you can catch up with your girlfriends over champagne before the movie's 7pm start. Each ticket comes with a complementary goodie bag with a mix of awesome products from the event's sponsors! Tickets start at $28, or for a larger than life-size experience - get the VMAX tickets for $32. If you're keen to lay back and have champas and desserts delivered to your seat, why not splurge on Gold Class tix? Anything is possible when you're taking some time out for you!

4. Mini Golf, Cocktails and Karaoke

Golf meets cocktail bar meets karaoke bar at the quirky Holey Moley in Newtown, with another branch popping up under the Coca Cola sign in King's Cross later this year. Rehydrate and refuel at the Caddyshack, or have drinks delivered to your karaoke room...our kind of mini golf! With prices starting at $16.50 per person for nine holes, this is a mums night out that won't break the budget. Read our recent review on Holey Moley here

5. Cheese and Wine Tasting

If you feel like an evening that's a bit more civilised, cheese and wine tasting it is. Formaggi Ocello in Surry Hills comes highly recommended, and they do Cheese & Wine nights on several Wednesday evenings each month. For $90 a head, this includes appetisers and sparkling wine to start, followed by a tasting of six wines and six artisan and farmhouse cheeses, with a little education on these from the Sommelier. Click here for more details.

Another one to check out: GPO Cheese + Wine Room in Martin Place, where you can get a Cheese Fondu for Two, starting at $49.50, with add-on recommended wine pairings. This comes as a complete meal with cured meats, grilled prawns, lavosh and all the rest of it, with vegetarian options also available. We've also got our eyes on the Dark Chocolate Fondu board...click here for more info.

6. Book A Sneaky Night Away

Okay it's not a mum's night out, but how good does a weekend away with the girls sound? We recommend the newly opened Bannisters in Port Stephens for the ultimate gal's trip. With a stunning wet-edge Infinity Pool, views of the bay and a restaurant by Rick Stein, you won't want to come home!
