Unique Ideas for a Mums' Night Out
- Parents Only
If you're planning a night out with the girls but want to make it a bit different to your usual dinner, here's a handful of events and hot spots worth checking out over the warm summer months. There's something for every mum here. And just in case you needed an excuse to leave the kids at home with your partner or sitter, call it Galentines Day - a day for celebrating strong female friendships!
Cork and Canvas
This is perfect for an end of year Mothers' Group get-together - or any get together, we say! At Cork & Canvas (in Darlinghurst and new studio in Sydney's north Shore) you can get your Picasso on with glass of wine and even a BYO cheese board in hand. This is Australia's first paint and sip studio and it promises a barrel of laughs with the gals. It’s the only venue we know where you can BYO wine and food and learn a thing or two from a professional artist. Your kids won't be the only ones coming home with artwork for the house!
If you're over in the north west of Sydney, the Marsden Brewhouse is doing a similar event, called Pinot and Picasso (we love this name!) on a regular basis. All the details here.
Frozé Your Way at Barangaroo
Did somebody say bottomless Frozé? At Untied down at Barangaroo you and your gal pals can enjoy bottomless self-serve access to all 6 flavours of Frozé plus go wild at the garnish wall and make your drinks extra OTT with lollies and the like (for 2 hours // $39pp) . Find out more here.
We've got more bottomless brunch ideas for you here.
Try A New Rooftop Bar
Spring is the perfect season for enjoying cocktails on a Sydney rooftop. We recommend the hot new Hyde Park House which has a stunning rooftop bar (see pic above) and a modern Japanese menu. Also brand new is the Manly Greenhouse with spectacular views of Manly beach and, as the name suggests, plenty of plants, courtesy of local plant specialists, The Plant Room, and Krelle. And then of course you've got the classic Coogee Pavillion for sunset champas with a stellar view. Check out our guide to Sydney's Best Rooftop Bars.
A Movie With A Difference
When its warm outside, why not catch a movie under the stars instead of in a dark theatre? Sydney puts on some extraordinary spring weather sometimes so we need to make the most of it! This season American Express Openair Cinema is bringing back its exceptional experiences with a whole new program of the latest flicks.
Feel like living the disco days? Check out Rocketman, the Elton John biopic (we dare you not to sing along!), or catch everyone's favourite nostalgic heartthrobs Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Dig out your knee-highs and Mary Janes for Clueless, or your high-necked blouses and heirloom jewelleryfor Downton Abbey.
With a fully-stocked bar and an incredibly array of food available onsite you can really make a night of it. There are locations in Camperdown, Pyrmont, and Bondi.
If you prefer to see a movie indoors, Chicks at the Flicks is calling your name. Arrive at 6pm so you can catch up with your girlfriends over champagne before the movie's 7pm start. Each ticket comes with a complementary goodie bag with a mix of awesome products from the event's sponsors! Tickets start at $28, or for a larger than life-size experience - get the VMAX tickets for $32. If you're keen to lay back and have champas and desserts delivered to your seat, why not splurge on Gold Class tix? Anything is possible when you're taking some time out for you! October's chick flick is the oh-so-appropriate, Hustlers (9 Oct, 2019). Find out more here.
Painting Gin while Drinking Gin at Chiswick
Tis the season for the botanical drink and Chiswick Woollahra have put a twist on their Gin on the Lawn experience with something new and exciting. In partnership with Bombay Sapphire, you are invited to unearth your inner artist and paint the perfect still life, which they'll curate from a deconstructed gin and tonic set up. Whether choosing lemon and lime, thyme or mint, you'll immerse yourselves in the beautiful lawn of Chiswick Woollahra, painting what they taste with a Bombay Sapphire cocktail in hand. An intimate class of 25 - 30 people will run from 6:00pm - 7:30pm every Wednesday. Find out more here.
Mini Golf, Cocktails and Karaoke
Golf meets cocktail bar meets karaoke bar at the quirky Holey Moley in Newtown, Castle Hill and under the Coca Cola sign in King's Cross. Rehydrate and refuel at the Caddyshack, or have drinks delivered to your karaoke room...our kind of mini golf! With prices starting at $16.50 per person for nine holes, this is a mums night out that won't break the budget. Read our recent review on Holey Moley here.
Book A Sneaky Night Away
Okay it's not a mum's night out, but how good does a weekend away with the girls sound? We recommend the newly opened Bannisters in Port Stephens for the ultimate gal's trip. With a stunning wet-edge Infinity Pool, views of the bay and a restaurant by Rick Stein, you won't want to come home!
