February 14 evokes different emotions for different people. There are those that are filled with cynicism and scoff at the idea of a day of love, and others that are filled with romance that count down the days.  Some like to go all out, others are a little low key.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be a day for lovers. In my single days I would seize the opportunity to take full advantage of the day and go out with my friends for a good laugh, a catch up, and relishing in our single lives. As a married woman, I still do this now with single friends.

So here are some ideas and places to try this V Day, no matter where you sit on the scale.

 

Romantic Dinner - Hamilton

No matter where you are in the city, bet your bottom dollar your local restaurants are putting on something special for Valentine’s Day. Traditionally restaurants offer a set menu, paired with drinks, removing the guesswork of menu choices, freeing up your time to stare longingly at one another. Or just having a laugh at the expense of one another.

As a lover of Lebanese food, my hot tip for a romantic dinner this Valentine’s Day is Byblos in Hamilton. Situated at Portside Wharf, the spectacular view matches the quality of food.

Cinema’s have gone the extra mile to make the simple pleasure of watching a movie, an all out indulgent experience. The great thing about the movies is you can be as low key or as extra as you like. You can find cheap tickets and discount deals or you can splurge on Gold Class packages for a night to remember.

With delicious food and a bunch of drinks served to your seat, the whole experience will make you feel like royalty.

Home Cooked Meal - Your Place

While we’re on the topic of low funds, lack of finance means you probably can’t afford a baby sitter. Well, we’re here to tell you there’s really no excuse to be deprived of a dash of romance in your life.

Get the kids to bed early, light some candles, have some music playing and set the scene for a romantic dinner at home.

To really spice things up, get involved and prepare the meal together, wearing nothing but aprons. (aprons optional).

For those of you that don’t take V day very seriously, the single parents among us or the couples looking to do something a little different, Sit Down Comedy Club has a special treat.
