Drop in to Barangaroo on Sunday 8 July for a special NAIDOC celebration.

From tasting bush ingredients to meeting dingoes, kick off the school holidays with a free celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander craft, art, food and culture.

The day-long event offers a variety of hands-on workshops including a dedicated interactive space for kids under 12 years to experience storytelling, cooking and try their hand at craft activities.

For older children and adults there are also craft workshops which includes fibre weaving and shell jewellery-making techniques and food demonstrations of delicious home-style dishes you can recreate at home.

All workshops and activities are free. Drop-in on the day and reserve a place in your preferred session at the information desk.

PROGRAM AT A GLANCE

10am – Welcome to Country and performance from Buuja Buuja Butterfly Dance Group

10:30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1:30pm, 3pm and 4pm – Food demonstrations with Samantha Martin (East Kimberly, WA) and Jody Orcher (Brewarrina, NSW). All 45 min sessions.

10:30am, 11.30am, 12:30pm, 12:45pm  1:30pm, 2:15pm, 3pm and 3:30pm – Fun and hands-on kids’ workshops making damper and weaving with Sylvia Nakachi (Torres Strait, QLD) and making shadow puppets with Mowanjum Aboriginal Art & Culture Centre (Derby, WA)

10am to 2pm – Meet dingoes from Bargo Dingo Sanctuary

10:30am, 11:15am, 11.30am, 12pm, 12:45pm, 1pm, 1:30pm, 2pm, 2:15pm, 3pm  and 3:45pm – Arts & weaving workshops (45 min sessions) including sun mat weaving with Narmi Maymuru and Gary Lang (Arnhem Land, NT), pandanus weaving with Mimi Aboriginal Art and Craft (Katherine, NT), shell making with Julie, Markeeta and Clive Freeman (South Sydney, NSW),  coconut frond weaving with Hannah Gutchen (Torres Strait, QLD)

11am, 2pm and 4pm – Aboriginal Cultural Tours of Barangaroo Reserve (45 min sessions)

12.30pm and 1:30pm – Movement workshops with Buuja Buuja Butterfly Dance Group (45 min sessions)

4.45pm – Closing performance from Buuja Buuja Butterfly Dance Group

All day – Food Trucks, Fire Pit
