We might be in lockdown, but this doesn't mean that we can't plan a full program of fun filled activities for the second week of the school holidays.

If you are looking to keep your kids occupied, join the State Library of NSW for a series of fun and interactive online programs that you can do at home during these July school holidays!

Secret codes, ciphers and more 

Codes and ciphers have been used throughout history to send messages that other people can’t read, and now Alicia is ready to share these secrets with you! In this top-secret session, a range of hands-on maker activities will keep you busy and by the end of the workshop you’ll have everything you need to send your own secret messages by letter, flag or parachute.

Collection Quiz

Discover the Library’s collection in this fast-paced workshop. You’ll be challenged to solve simple puzzles, answer quick questions and learn fun facts about the extraordinary collections held at the Library. You’ll need a pencil and paper for this workshop.

Blackout Poetry

Board game bonanza

Did you know that the State Library has boardgames in its collection? They'll share some of these with you and then show you how to make your own. Choose your favourite theme, create your tokens and decorate the board to develop a fully functioning board game you can play and treasure for years to come. Along the way, their resident board game fanatic Alicia will share how she created the ‘Sea Münsters’ card game and teach you some new games to play with your friends and family.

Could you outsmart a sea monster? If you like writing stories or imagining wild adventures, this is the program for you! Unravel the mysteries of medieval sea monsters and use these as inspiration to create your own terrifying beasts. Learn how to make a mini-book from a sheet of paper and create a bestiary full of your own quirky creatures.

Watercolour workshop
