These school holidays explore Sydney’s fascinating history through fun events, interactive exhibitions, and unique museum experiences.

Electronic Sound Workshops

These school holidays, kids will have the opportunity to try their hand at electronic music production with a series of fun and inspiring workshops facilitated by Hack Sounds in partnership with 107 Projects and Carlin McClellan from Play Anything. Enjoy making beats, melodies and compositions from scratch.

Suitable for ages 8-12.

Where: Hyde Park Barracks
When: Saturday 9 July: 10am, 12pm & 2pm and Sunday 10 July: 10am, 12pm & 2pm 
Cost: General: $15, Member: $12. Each participant ticket includes one free parent/carer.

NAIDOC Week at Rouse Hill Estate

Please note: this event has been cancelled due to severe wet weather and the poor and hazardous site conditions at Rouse Hill Estate.

Celebrate NAIDOC Week with us on Darug Country at Rouse Hill Estate with this year’s theme, ‘Get up! Stand up! Show up!’ Join us for festivities on Sunday 10 July and connect with Aboriginal culture, past and present. Take part in a range of family-friendly activities throughout the day including performances, storytelling, weaving and art.

Where:   Rouse Hill Estate
When:    Sunday 10 July, 10am – 3pm
Cost:      Free event entry, registration recommended

Please note: There is no parking on site. Free return shuttle buses will be running on the day between Rouse Hill and Tallawong stations to Rouse Hill Estate.

Walking through a Songline

Follow in the steps of the Seven Sisters and immerse yourself in a songline through this multi-sensory digital installation. Experience a space of light and sound where paintings come to life, stories are visualised, and ancient knowledge is shared in new ways. Afterwards, take part in a craft activity in the viewing cube space and make a family tree as part of the Walking through a Songline exhibition.

Explore the Museum of Sydney to uncover stories from the site of First Government House. Kids can join Sami the intrepid explorer in our trail and discover the lives of the people who lived there. Measure up to see how you would fit on a first fleet ship and learn about Sydney as you complete the activities in the trail. Suitable for kids 5-12 years

Where:   Museum of Sydney, Cnr Phillip and Bridge Streets, Sydney
When:    Open 10am – 5pm Thursday–Sunday (until 30 June) then open Monday to Sunday (from 1 July)
Cost:      Free entry (weekends until 30 June then every day from 1 July)

Hyde Park Barracks Kids’ Trail

Come on an adventure through time at the Hyde Park Barracks with a tailored audio guide and activity trail for kids. Hear the fascinating story of the Barracks as told by some of the convicts and immigrants who lived there, plus listen for clues and complete some fun activities as you move through the museum – spot the rats, draw your own convict tattoo and more! Suitable for kids 5-12 years.

Where:  Hyde Park Barracks, Queens Square, Sydney
When:   Open Thursday to Sunday, 10am – 5pm
Cost:     Free weekend entry until 30 June. Half price entry from 1 July.
