Sydney's biggest backyard - Western Sydney Parklands - goes on show this July.

Set in the heart of Western Sydney, The Parklands is a place for people of all backgrounds to meet, celebrate, learn, play, exercise and appreciate our beautiful natural environment. In celebration of 50 years it’s throwing open the gates with a series of free events and activities for all ages.

Known as Sydney’s Biggest Backyard, Western Sydney Parklands covers 5,280 hectares and 27 kilometres from north to south. It’s home to award winning picnic and recreational areas such as Bungarribee, Lizard Log and Wylde Mountain bike park, as well as major entertainment facilities and sports venues.

Take a lap in the family car:
Imagine taking your own car around Sydney Motorsport Park's Gardner GP circuit, followed by an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of the iconic Race Control Tower.

The Night Sky through Aboriginal Eyes:
Join Aboriginal Astronomer Kirsten Banks as she takes you on a journey through the night sky over Western Sydney Parklands from an Indigenous perspective. Listen to star stories and discover how Aboriginal Australians have used the sky for their culture and astronomy for tens of thousands of years.

When:     Saturday 28 July and 4 August 2018; 5.30-7.30pm

Going Wylde Day:
Get your ride on! The hugely popular Wylde Mountain Bike Trail has persuaded celebrity riders, Alex Cameron and Tom Wrigley, to visit Sydney's Biggest Backyard as part of our On Show celebrations. This will be an activity-packed day including escorted coach rides (6km and 12km), jump displays, pump track skills sessions, bike health checks and more. There will be great giveaways for all participants.

Street Paws Festival:
What better way to experience Western Sydney Parklands than getting dragged along by your four‑legged friend? Join in for a two-kilometre amble through the beautiful pathways at Bungarribee, as we warm up for the Western Sydney Parklands Street Paws Festival, later this winter.
Where:    Bungarribee Park, Doonside Rd, Doonside
When:     Friday 20 July 2018; 10-11am
Cost:       $8/adult (dogs free). 100% will be donated to Pet Stock Assist, which helps local rescue groups foster and adopt out animals in need.

Bird Lovers:
Join celebrated bird expert, Mark Fuller in the wilds of Sydney’s Biggest Backyard as we record the birds and other wildlife that call Western Sydney Parklands home. More than 40 species are often recorded in a single morning of exploration.

Parklands Tree Planting:
Did you know Western Sydney Parklands has restored more than 13 square kilometres of native Cumberland Plain bushland since 2008? And that this includes more than 350,000 native trees, plants and wildflowers? Help make the future grown by heading down to plant a tree or two. Sessions will be run by Greening Australia.

Cost:       FREE (bookings essential)

To help make the future grow, come down and plant with us. Your handiwork will be there for generations to come! The session will be run by our friends at Greening Australia.

Calmsley Hill City Farm:
A rural wonderland, close to the heart of Sydney, just off the M7 at Elizabeth Drive. It’s a place where the whole family can enjoy exciting shows and exhibits, and get up close to native and farmyard animals. You can bring a picnic, or use the Farm’s electric BBQ’s to cook your own while you enjoy their beautiful grounds.
