The Botanic Gardens and Parklands continue to remain open to the public at this time, however the school holiday program has been cancelled.
 

Visit the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan this Autumn school holidays for a great, fun and active day out.  There's a great range of activities on offer to keep you and your little ones entertained.

Easter in the Garden:

Meet the Easter Bunny and his Australian animal friends on your way along the activity trail ... and have photo taken at the end! Get a ticket for your little ones and let them find out which Australian animals lay eggs! To keep the parents entertained, the Easter Bunny has organised a whole market where they can browse, shop, and have snacks! At the end of the day, we want to find out who has made the best Easter bonnet at our Easter Bonnet Parade around Lakeside Lawn.

Chocolate Theatre Show:

A history of chocolate as seen through the eyes of those who helped turn this giant bitter seed pod into the yummy treat we enjoy today.

Come and Sherblock Holmes as he tries to solve the missing recipe for Choc chip cookies and travels through time to meet Montezuma-king of the Aztecs, Queen Anne of Spain, a Quaker called Mr Fry from England and see what part they have in this amazing chocolate journey.

Spotlight Prowl for Kids:

Dusk is a wonderful time to spot animals in The Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan. The Gardens are home to a variety of nocturnal creatures, from brushtail possums, wallaroos, echidnas, and all kinds of spiders. 

Join our experienced Rangers for a fascinating and surprising spotlight walk to see how the Garden transforms when the sun goes down.

Dinosaurs in the Sky!

Ever wondered why birds can fly. Follow Jackson and his little dinosaur to the beginning of aviation and find out why our birds have wings and why every little bird is a dinosaur.

This fun interactive 30 minutes show will introduce children to the concept of evolution and show them the relation between dinosaurs and birds. We will also go onto a Bird Spotting Tour and make our own fossils.

The ticket includes a map to the “Jurassic Garden” – our augment reality that lets you see dinosaur roam the Botanic Garden.

Garden Science - Stick Engineering:

Enter the world of stick architecture with us and see what amazing things you can build with “just sticks”. Kids will work in teams to solve engineering challenges. Who can build the tallest tower? Can you make a floating raft? Join us and find out! STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) is an essential part of children’s learning to help them become creative and innovative leaders of our future. Your children will benefit from skills learnt in this program in the next term.

Pizza Party in the Bush:

Kids will learn all about native Australian plants and how they are used by Aboriginal people. They will put all ingredients together to make your very own yummy pizza, from materials right here in the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan.

Aboriginal Art Class for Children:

Against the backdrop of the stunning Botanic Garden, you can discover native art and culture through hands-on painting and storytelling.

Learn contemporary Aboriginal art techniques and culture and tap into your creative talents to paint an Aboriginal art-style souvenir of your own, while gaining an understanding of local Aboriginal culture through the stories of traditional culture and customs.

Kids vs Wild - Shelter:

We all need shelter in the Wild – join us for 2hrs and learn how to survive the Wild and build the ultimate shelter. Have a look how the animals are doing it and of course make your own!

Eco Art for Kids:

If you love plants and animals, are aged between 5 - 12 years, and want to explore your creative side, then this art workshop is for you! Children will play some nature-based art games working with a range of art mediums and natural materials to make a series of works to either leave in situ (on site) or take home.

The Obstacle Challenge:

Wrap up the school holidays with the thrill of adventure and teamwork. The Obstacle Challenge is an exciting outdoor activity for young Australians to discover the importance of teamwork and mateship.

In a combined effort and with the help of Education Rangers, kids will have the time of their lives building an obstacle course for other teams to scout out and venture through. They will experience an alliance with their own teammates by running, jumping and problem solving as they undergo the challenges of the other obstacle courses constructed too.

The Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan, situated just 45 minutes south-west from the city, is a beautiful place to visit for a day of family exploration and excitement for kids of all ages. Set in 416 hectares of hills and lakes, the Garden is host to 2000 exotic plants, tropical rainforest, gorgeous garden beds and a wide range of native wildlife. Bring your binoculars and get close to wallaroos, swamp wallabies and be sure to visit the bird hide at Lake Nadungamba.
