During the Spring School Holidays escape to Cockatoo Island with friends and family for a guided tour of the former convict prison and naval dockyard. Ticket are strictly limited, and COVID-safe plans are in place, so be sure to get in quick to secure tickets! There are also print at home activity sheets to bring along when you visit and a range of boredom busting content to keep the kids occupied at home.
From Sandstone to Steel is a crash-course in the island's layered history. During this 90-minute tour, you will visit Cockatoo Island's iconic landmarks and your knowledgeable guide will reveal how they fit into the island’s layered historical narrative. You will also hear anecdotes about a colourful cast of real-life characters.
Where: The tour starting location is outside the Visitors Centre
When: 1:30am and 1:30pm, select Sundays (27 Sept, 4 Oct, 11 Oct)

Haunted History is a journey into the island's dark past. This is an exciting opportunity for you and your family to experience Cockatoo Island’s most atmospheric landmarks, including the convict workshops and gaol, the grain silos, Dog Leg Tunnel and Biloela House. Plus, your guide will captivate your imagination as they masterfully blend history with mystery!
Where: Meet outside the Cockatoo Island Visitors Centre.
When: Saturday evening from 6:30pm - 8:00pm during the Spring School Holidays,.
Cost: $25 per adult and $15 per child
Convict Escape Attempts is an opportunity to learn about the prisoners who dared escaped the convict penal establishment. As you explore the island, you’ll hear about successful and ill-fated escape attempts involving disguises, sewers, shark-infested waters, stolen boats and a volley of bullets.
Where: Meet outside the Cockatoo Island Visitors Centre.
When: Tours run on Saturday during the School Holidays at 11:30am & 1:00pm
Cost: $16 adults & $12 child
