School Holiday Activities at the Australian National Maritime Museum
The Australian National Maritime Museum brings the waterfront and galleries alive with play, discovery and fun for kids of all ages.
Explore new exhibitions, including Ur Wayii (Incoming Tide), and catch the final days of the acclaimed Wildlife Photographer of the Year. Kids can get hands-on in the Kids on Deck maker space with artmaking and science experiments, while the Cabinet of Curiosities offers a tactile experience with fascinating objects and specimens.
The Museum’s spring holiday program promises a memorable day of fun, learning and imagination where budding marine explorers can plunge into the ocean’s depths!
Spring School Holiday Program
There are oceans of fun things to do every day of the school holidays at the Australian National Maritime Museum, and most are included with your Museum ticket.
Highlights include:
- Splashing Science Circus - Encounter clever characters, fun facts, spectacular science demonstrations and daring displays of circus skill in this lively and interactive show.
- Kids on Deck - Be inspired by our new exhibition Ur Wayii (Incoming Tide) and get creative with artmaking in the hands-on maker space
- Tools, Weapons and Watercraft Workshop - Koori Kinnections and artists from the museum’s Indigenous programs team present traditional tools, weapons and watercraft through tactile discovery and hands-on storytelling.
- Weaving Zagal and Paper Florilegium - Learn to create a woven angel fish, or a multilayered paper flower inspired by the work of artist Brian Robinson
- Photography Gel Printing - Learn to snap spectacular SLR photos and transform them into colourful, wearable works of art to take home.
- Whale Song DJ - Remix, reverb and record your own aquatically-inspired songs and make animated videos in a fun workshop on digital music making.
- Cabinet of Curiosities: Lost and Found at Sea - Explore wonderful and curious navigational devices, model boats and artmaking inspired by celestial forms.
- My Museum Sketch Trail - Become a museum curator as you adventure around the galleries, explore the exhibitions, and spy objects to add to your very own mini museum. Complete a trail to nab your prize!
- Underwater Drones - Explore below the surface of the harbour and test your gaming skills with the U-Drone. Underwater drones’ sessions include a private workshop.
- Sensory Friendly Days - Galleries, a vessel, and activity areas will be open extra early or extra late with modified sound and lighting for a quieter, more
enjoyable experience for kids and adults on the autism spectrum. Trained staff and volunteers will be on hand to facilitate creative activities.
