Garden Grubs (6-12yrs)

This all-day school holiday program is full of fun and adventures in the Garden. Kids spend the day exploring the garden and connecting with nature with each day a different theme!

Tuesday 9 July 2019 – CELEBRATE NAIDOC WEEK: Meet and greet an Aboriginal Educator and listen to dreaming stories and music plus take a guided tour of our native garden and learn about different uses of plants. Make damper, sample native jam, create your own aboriginal craft and calico bag design, games, animal yoga and so much more!
 
Thursday 11 July – CHRISTMAS IN JULY: Make a Christmas tree and ornaments, make musical instruments and sing Christmas carols! Plant in our cryptogram house and explore the garden. Make a special rocky road Christmas treat, enjoy art, craft, games and enjoy good old fashioned fun in winter sun in the great outdoors.

Friday 12 July 2019 - BUGS & BEASTIES: Look for bugs and beasties as we explore the garden. Dip net in the pond, hunt for minibeasts and meet a garden expert. Get messy creating with clay, plant daisy seeds to take home to grow and relax with animal yoga and meditation. Plus games, outdoor play and so much more!
When:    9, 11 & 12 July 2019; 9am-3.30pm (Standard Day) OR 8am-5.30pm (Long Day)

Mossy Monsters (7-12yrs)

In this program children will find out how our carnivorous ‘monster’ plants eat insects during a tour of The Calyx, learn how plants and animals live together in the rainforest and search the Botanic Gardens rainforest for our own mossy monsters and make their own Mossy Monster to take home.
When:    8-12 & 15-19 July 2019; 10.30am-12pm & 12.30-2pm 
Cost:     $20.50 per child

Squirrel Glider Survivor – Outdoor Garden Theatre (4-8yrs & families)

Follow the tale of a little Squirrel Glider called Peita who faces the challenge of surviving a night in the forest.  In this interactive show with lots of audience participation, you will meet many characters, both friendly and not so friendly, that live in or near the "tree house of terror".
When:    15 & 16 July 2019; 10.30-11.30am & 12.30-1.30pm 
Cost:     $14.50 per person. All children must be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.

Kids Aboriginal Art Program

Join the Aboriginal educators for some fun, hands-on creativity to create your own Aboriginal art using a range of materials. Learn about the different styles of Aboriginal Art to create your own unique art piece.
When:    15-18 July 2019; 10.30am & 12.30pm 
Cost:     $20.50 per child

Dandy Lions (up to 5yrs + parents/carers)

Dandy Lions is a delightful morning of gardening, craft, singing and play for young children and their carers. Activities include:

  • Garden activities including planting and harvesting
  • Nature-based art and craft
  • Lively, interactive storytelling
  • Songs, music and dance
  • Garden discovery walks
  • Playtime and fun!

When:    Every Thursday; 10.30am & 12pm 
Cost:     $17 per child

Feeding Time at Plants with Bite!

Delve into the fascinating world of carnivorous plants and have your chance to get up close with these creepy and weird specimens. Join in for this fun and educational experience where you will learn about the evolution of carnivorous plants, the different trap types and how they go about catching their prey.

Set within The Calyx which is showing the Plants With Bite display that houses a colossal collection of carnivorous plants, you have the chance to get up close and personal with a range of trap types. The educator will demonstrate a simple experiment and will give you your own Venus fly trap and crickets to feed it. The session will end with you being given your own edible cricket to gobble up and try!

Children under 4 can accompany an adult ticket for free.
Children under 13 must purchase a children's ticket and be accompanied by an adult who has an adult ticket. 
When:    28 July; 11-11.45am & 12-12.45pm
