No Show at Carriageworks: 3-weeks Of Free Artistic Events
- Fri Feb 12 - Sun Mar 07 2021
Carriageworks, one of Australia’s largest multi-arts precincts, has invited 11 artist-led initiatives from across New South Wales to be a part of a free, 3-week multidisciplinary artistic presentation, each presenting an independent program across the three weeks.
NO SHOW will highlight the activities of artist-run spaces, studios, cooperatives, digital platforms and online publications, with the work of more than 50 largely early-career Australian artists and writers, on display,
NO SHOW will take over the Carriageworks Public Space and Bay 19 from 12 February until 7 March 2021 with a constantly evolving display of art installations, screenings, performances and writer residencies.
A light, modular structure for the artists and writers to work within, that is demountable and recyclable, has been purposefully built for the event by Sydney-based architects Youssofzay + Hart, using off-the-shelf materials to create discrete but connected spaces that will support the program.
Some of the independent presentations featured in NO SHOW include the long-running Aboriginal Artists Co-operative Boomalli presenting Loom, a group show featuring five emerging artists; Australia’s longest-running artist-led organisation Firstdraft presenting five independent emerging artists; the Camperdown artist-run initiative KNULP’s conceptual art project, Good Will Hunting, negotiating the complex interplay between art, labour, funding and philanthropy; a film series titled Radical Ecologies by digital moving image platform Prototype using documentary techniques in a contemporary art context; and an interactive exhibition by social enterprise Studio A, who support artists living with intellectual disabilities.
