Hot on the heels of its giganotosaurus $57.5m renovations, The Australian Museum is about to unveil another incredible new discovery zone amid its already impressive transformation.

The exciting new state-of-the-art education and play space Burra will immerse you in Western science and First Nations knowledge on a fascinating journey through Country.

Burra - a NEW Education and Play Space

Replacing the former Search and Discover zone and Pre-historic Playground, Burra continues the museum's commitment to offering children a hands-on approach to discovering the natural world. Little adventurers can immerse themselves in an exploration of the giant burra (eel), discover the surrounding sensory walls and engage their imagination in the interactive play zones.

Burra, which means eel in Darug (a First Nations language of the Sydney area), allows curious children to follow the extraordinary life cycle of the eel across fresh, brackish and saltwater ecosystems. Along the way, children will learn about the environment and the importance of taking care of it through fun and interactive experiences – including a giant eel. Throughout the experience, children will trace the incredible migration of burra along estuaries and rivers, across rockpools and out to sea and follow the life cycle of this surprisingly resilient fish. They will also learn about the importance of caring for Country and each other.

Burra will feature two multi-purpose teaching spaces and several versatile programming areas, an immersive theatre, custom-made touchable First Nations tools and dioramas showcasing the work of the Australian Museum Research Institute, and a range of multi-modal, accessible interactives, providing children and adults with a rich, multi-dimensional learning experience.

The whole family will be inspired by this truly unique and immersive space, in the heart of Gadigal Country.

Where:    Level 2, Australian Museum, 1 William St, Sydney
When:     Burra is a permanent education space
