John Mawurndjul Family Day - Sunday 8 July; 10.30am-4pm
Celebrate the art and language of master bark painter John Mawurndjul with a day of stories, activities and performances at the John Mawurndjul Family Day, as part of the opening weekend of John Mawurndjul: I am the old and the new.

Meet musical sensations Microwave Jenny, learn to count in Kuninjku, then grab a cushion and settle in for a story in the galleries. Pop by the MCA’s school holiday program, Contemporary Kids (runs 8 - 13 July) and make your own mobile, inspired by a place that is special to you.

10.30am–4pm:    Create your own artwork in Contemporary Kids.*
11.30am–12pm:  Sing and dance with Microwave Jenny.
12.30–1pm:         Learn to count and play games in Kuninjku.
2.30–3pm:           Settle in for bilingual story time in Kuninjku and English in the galleries.

*Contemporary Kids is a paid activity, tickets are available online and on the door. All other Family Day events are free.

About Microwave Jenny: After a chance meeting backstage over 10 years ago, husband and wife duo Tessa Nuku and Brendon Boney discovered their shared drive to create smiles through music. The pair joined forces as the folk-jazz sensation Microwave Jenny – a decision that saw them win an APRA Professional Development Award. Microwave Jenny’s catchy melodies and unique on stage connection have won them a solid fan base, transforming them festival favourites at events such as The Woodford Folk Festival, Peats Ridge Festival, The Dreaming Festival, Festival of the Sun and Bluesfest. The duo have performed internationally at the Red House Theatre, Taiwan and The Aussie BBQ, UK, and written music for film and television, including Bran Nue Dae, Winners & Losers and Offspring. Recently signed by Cooking Vinyl Music, Microwave Jenny are hard at work on their next release due out in late 2018.
