Get ready to dive in – Ducktober is back and making a splash for mental health.
During Mental Health Awareness Month in October 2024, the Waves of Wellness Foundation (WOW) challenges participants to tackle a daily dip in cold water for 31 days to boost their own mental health while raising funds to support Australians who are struggling with theirs. WOW are partnering with Raiz Invest for this year's challenge to 'raiz' the bar for mental health.

Why cold water? Well, it's not just about braving the chilly plunge (although that's part of the fun!). As participants "duck" into a cold body of water (the ocean, pool, bathtub, a cold shower etc.), it symbolises taking small, brave steps towards better mental
health. Cold-water therapy has also been linked to better mental clarity as it helps to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. The best part? Your frosty efforts are directly helping WOW continue its incredible free surf therapy programs.
Making Waves For Mental Health
The statistics are staggering: each year, 1 in 5 Australians will experience mental health issues. But with long waiting lists and an overwhelmed mental health sector, far too many are left without the support they need. In fact, 54% of Aussies with mental health challenges don't receive any help at all – sometimes because traditional methods are inaccessible or intimidating.
That's where Ducktober comes in! By jumping into cold water every day in October, you're not just doing something great for your own mental health; you're also raising essential funds to support WOW's free 8-week surf therapy program. It's an alternative that's making waves in mental health care, offering a fresh approach for those who might be struggling to find support through conventional systems.
