To celebrate the historic opening of their new $334 million building, The Sydney Modern Project, The Art Gallery of New South Wales is hosting 9 days of free art, music, performances, and talks.

Let's not skip over the significance of this event, with the newly constructed building (standing snug as a bug next to the existing Art Gallery of New South Wales) having been in construction for the past ten years and is touted as being the most significant cultural construction to be established in Sydney since the Sydney Opera House - so yeah, its opening is definitely calling for some celebrations.

 

This historic opening is kind of a big deal.

What's On at The Art Gallery of New South Wales

This free event celebrates the opening of Sydney's newest landmark, the Art Gallery of New South Wales' new, stunning building designed by award-winning architects SANAA. 

There will be a wide variety of performances, talks, tours, and workshops in celebration of Art in all its forms.

One of the biggest highlights the whole family can enjoy has to be the Art For All concert in the Domain, a free concert headlined by Grammy-nominated international pop singer Ellie Goulding, supported by Australian artists Meg Mac and Electric Fields.

There'll also be a drone show over Woolloomooloo Bay created by Kamilaroi artist Reko Rennie. In addition, there will be a series of conversations with artists, creatives, and thought leaders at the Art Gallery.
 

There'll be something for everyone.

Do I need a ticket for the Art Gallery’s opening celebrations?

Entry to the Art Gallery and all opening events is free.

You DO need to book a timed and dated ticket to visit on the opening weekend (3 and 4 December 2022) because capacity is limited.

The time you choose is for entry into the new building, known as the North Building. There is NO timed requirement for entry into our original building, now known as the South Building.
