The World❜s Biggest Dinosaur is Coming to Sydney

Move over, T. rex! A prehistoric giant is stomping into Sydney, and he's bringing some seriously enormous bones with him!

The World's Biggest Dinosaur: Dinosaurs of Patagonia is coming to the Australian Museum on 28 November 2026, bringing one of the biggest dinosaur exhibitions ever seen in Australia to the heart of Sydney. Featuring the largest dinosaur ever discovered, towering skeletons and the biggest fossilised bone ever found, this blockbuster exhibition promises a jaw-dropping adventure for Sydney's little dinosaur lovers.

Meet the Biggest Dinosaur to Ever Walk the Earth

Patagotitan mayorum
The Patagotitan mayorum

The star of the show is Patagotitan mayorum, a colossal dinosaur that roamed the Earth around 100 million years ago.

Measuring almost 38 metres long and weighing an estimated 70 tonnes, this prehistoric heavyweight makes even the mighty T. rex look a little less intimidating!

His enormous, full-size skeleton cast will stretch across the entire length of the Australian Museum's Touring Hall, giving families the chance to stand beneath one of the largest creatures ever to walk the planet.

And just wait until the kids see the size of his bones!

The Biggest Fossilised Bone Ever Discovered

One of the exhibition's biggest attractions is a whopping 2.4-metre-long Patagotitan thigh bone, described as the biggest fossilised bone ever discovered.

But there's plenty more prehistoric excitement waiting to be unearthed.

Families can explore 16 life-size dinosaur skeleton casts, alongside genuine fossils and fascinating discoveries from Patagonia in Argentina, one of the world's richest dinosaur fossil regions.

Look out for Tyrannotitan, a fearsome prehistoric predator, and tiny Manidens, one of the smallest dinosaurs known to science.

Beyond the gigantic skeletons, families can travel back millions of years through immersive displays and interactive experiences. With 3D animations and hands-on activities, budding palaeontologists can discover how these incredible creatures lived and how scientists uncovered their ancient remains.

The exhibition also explores the fascinating prehistoric connection between Australia and South America, which were once joined as part of the supercontinent Gondwana.

Opening just in time for summer, Dinosaurs of Patagonia will kick off the Australian Museum's 200th anniversary celebrations, with a huge program of special events and exhibitions planned throughout 2027.
