Looking for a great way to cool off in the heat or somewhere indoors for those balmy wet days, then why not visit one of these top Sydney pools.

Each aquatic centre offers a range of other facilities and services, including full-size gyms, indoor courts, fitness classes, massage/physiotherapy treatments and cafes.

Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre

Named after the Olympic gold medallist, this pool is a standout example of contemporary architecture. Designed by Harry Seidler and Associates, the building is shaped like a wave. Facilities include: a 50 metre pool, a leisure pool with spa and a warm water program pool. All are indoors and heated. There's also a fitness centre with gym and classes, sauna and steam room, cafe and parking. More information here

Andrew (Boy) Charlton Pool

Located on the edge of the harbour, this pool is famous for hosting its namesake's world-record races in the 1920s. Facilities include: seats on a shaded terrace, daybeds, licensed cafe, massage centre, 50 metre pool and smaller 20 metre pool, fitness and swimming classes. More information here. 

Cook+Philip Park Pool

Located near the heart of the city centre by St Mary's Cathedral, Cook + Phillip Park Pool is a high-quality swimming and fitness facility. The centre is open all year round and features full access for people with disability. The centre has a cafe and adjacent public car park. Facilities include: 50 metre pool, dedicated leisure pool with wave machine, hydrotherapy pool (all pools are heated), fitness centre, sports court for basketball, netball, indoor soccer and other sports, classes such as yoga, pilates and swimming. Victoria Park Pool

Victoria Park Pool is an oasis in the middle of a tranquil, 9-hectare park – itself a big drawcard. Facilities include a 50 metre old-school outdoor heated pool, splash pool for toddlers, beach-style entry deck and fun water feature, creche, cafe, swim shop and fitness classes such as aqauerobics, swiming, personal training, boxing and yoga to name a few. Limited free 2-hour parking is available in the car park (enter from the park side of City Road only). More information here

Prince Alfred Park Pool

Prince Alfred Park Pool is the City's first accessible heated outdoor pool with a ramp into the water. Facilities include: splash deck with water toys for toddlers, change rooms, cafe and kiosk, latest filtration systems and water saving fixtures, energy efficient lighting and heating. The pool is surrounded by bleachers, umbrellas, improved paths, furniture and lights. The pool complex features a green roof of native grasses to regulate temperature and the building also features animated chimneys that are functional public art pieces. More information here
