April School Holiday Activities at Centennial Parklands 2022

Centennial Parklands have a range of holiday programs for the April 2022 school holidays - a combination of drop-off or join-in programs for children and their parents. There are many fun and educational programs that encourage kids to connect and learn in nature, from Park Science Mad Mappers to Obstacle Challenges and Bush Ranger Shelter Building to name a few. And they haven't forgotten about Easter either with a couple of great Easter events throughout the school holidays.

Park Science Mad Mappers

If you're a keen adventurer, this program will teach you how to use and make a map and how to find your way with and without a compass! Kids will enjoy hands-on activities like mapping and orienteering whilst enjoying the beauty of Centennial Park in this fun-filled 2-hour program. If you book into The Obstacle Challenge in the afternoon, your kids will be supervised over lunch (BYO lunch).

Learn map reading skills and enjoy the great outdoors of Centennial Parklands.

Bushrangers - Super Shelters

Kids will get to be active outside (well away from devices) and enjoy a day of wildlife, bushcraft, outdoor challenges, games and free play in Centennial Parklands. This program will focus on the theme 'shelter' and will involve learning how to make a shelter from large sticks, bark and other natural materials. 

Special notes: This program will go ahead in all weather except high winds, so please come prepared with wet weather gear. Children must wear enclosed shoes. Please bring morning tea and lunch.

Get back to nature with the Bushrangers Super Shelter workshop.

Alice in Wonderpark

In this twist on Alice in Wonderland, the audience helps Alice paint the roses red so she can find her way home. The audience also participates in The Mad Hatters Tea Party, talk to the White Rabbit and play croquet with The Queen of Hearts. This is a highly interactive 50-minute performance by the Eaton Gorge Theatre Company with songs and a familiar storyline

Enjoy this outdoor theatre experience of a well-known classic tale.

The Big Bat Night

Bring your picnic blanket and watch the flyout of Sydney's largest colony during sunset and start from there on a Spotlight Prowl through Centennial Park to find more of Australia’s fascinating nocturnal wildlife and of course Centennial Parklands have some bat-tastic fun activities for the smaller bat-fans. The program is for children from 5-12 years. Children need to be supervised. The accompanying adult does not need a ticket. 

Special notes: This program is a popular family program so please book early to avoid disappointment. Bring a torch and dress warmly.

Discover amazing nocturnal wildlife at Centennial Parklands.

Dreamtime Drawing: Aboriginal Art Classes for Kids

Against the backdrop of the stunning Centennial Parklands, kids will discover native art and culture through hands-on painting and storytelling. Kids will learn contemporary Aboriginal art techniques and gain an understanding of Aboriginal culture through the stories told by Centennial Parklands Aboriginal educators from Shared Knowledge.

This program is designed for children ages 5 to 12 years and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Learn contemporary Aboriginal art techniques.

The Obstacle Challenge

This is an exciting outdoor activity and an opportunity to discover the importance of teamwork and mateship. In a combined effort and with the help of Education Rangers, kids will have the time of their lives building an obstacle course for other teams to scout out and venture through. They will experience an alliance with their own teammates by running, jumping and problem-solving as they undergo the challenges of the other obstacle courses constructed too.

Astronomy in the Park

Enjoy the great outdoors and get out under the stars! Leave behind all your Earthly worries and join your hosts Jessie and Reuben on a tour through the southern night sky. This event will help you to make sense of what’s going on in the night sky. You’ll learn how to navigate using the stars, be captivated by stories of the cosmos, and look through a telescope to see things that aren’t visible to the naked eye.

For those kids that love plants and animals, this is a great workshop for them to explore their creative side. Kids will enjoy the great outdoors of Centennial Parklands and learn how to make beautiful things from natural materials.

Easter Bunny's Workshop - Easter Art & Craft

Get creative this Easter with a range of arts and crafts at Centennial Parklands. Create three beautiful pieces of nature art to put in your Easter baskets for your parents or grandparents! There will also be time for stories and outside games.

Centennial Parklands for Easter
Creative outdoor fun for Easter at Centennial Parklands.

Egg-cellent Easter

This highly anticipated event is returning for 2022. Kids will be taken on an Easter Bilby journey through Centennial Parklands and given chocolate after each activity and a small chocolate bilby at the end of their session. Parents and kids will be introduced to the Easter Bilby story and kids will engage in nature-based games and art projects celebrating Australia’s native plants and animals, follow trail maps, overcome challenges and connect with the natural world and their community! 

This is a 1-hour program led by one of Centennial Parklands education rangers. Session times are 9am, 10.15am, 11.30am, 2.15pm and 3.30pm
