Barker College

Barker is a Co-educational Anglican Private school based in the Northshore suburb of Hornsby.

A Barker education is shaped by the schools focus on preparing for a life beyond the school gates. Students are exposed to diverse opportunities and experiences, so that they are able to develop resilience and adaptability within a supportive environment.

The Barker Difference

There are two distinct differences at Barker College. One is that it's a school that deliberately and intentionally allows people to thrive in a holistic sense – emotionally, physiologically, physically, academically. It’s about all of those things that form together to make a fully formed human being.

The second thing is that they have a firm coeducational identity and a firm expression of that. It’s a view that everybody can find a place and thrive irrespective of interests, skillset or capacity and be committed to doing that in a way that brings young men and young women together for the proper expression of human interaction and identity.

Junior School

Barker’s Junior School from Pre-K to Year 6, is an environment where all children are encouraged, challenged and engaged in learning and co-curricular experiences appropriate to children of their age.

Barker’s Junior School aims to develop learners who are knowledgeable, caring, open-minded, balanced, principled, reflective, communicators, thinkers, risk-takers and inquirers. It is these ten attributes that the school believes are important in their learning journey.

Secondary School

Barker believes that a coeducational school experience provides a safe environment in which young men and women can grow up together, learn to work respectfully, and appreciate the differing viewpoints that each brings. It provides full access to the Barker College experience for all students and their families, promoting harmony and a rich and vibrant academic and co-curricular life for their students.

Philosophy:  “Thriving at Barker” stands on four pillars: Inquiry, Rhetoric, Gratitude and Service. The first two pillars refer to our cognitive or intellectual growth. The second two refer to wellbeing and resilience. A human being fully alive will hold their intellectual and spiritual self in a harmonious whole and this harmony will make them strong all their days.
