Sydney Speaking School offers a wide range of holiday workshops in debating and public speaking for school students from years 1- 9 in North Sydney, the Inner West, Parramatta and Moore Park.

Co-founded and run by highly-experienced debating coach-with over a decade’s experience, Mark Slaven, Sydney Speaking School seeks to remedy the lack of good quality education in public speaking throughout greater Sydney.  Using their combined skills honed through years of experience, the Sydney Speaking School team aims to bring out the confident and captivating speaker that hides within every child, by using fun, engaging and welcoming programs targeted at improving the speaking skills of primary and secondary school students.

Sydney Speaking School takes a holistic approach to education by building not only students’ public speaking skills but their critical thinking, communication and cooperation skills as well. They seek to ensure that every class is kept small, that every student is given multiple opportunities to speak in a fun, relaxed environment, and that every one of their experienced and passionate coaches is able to provide individualised feedback.

Sydney Speaking School also runs a range of term programs in partnership with coaching colleges across Sydney - please get in touch if you're interested in getting involved!

Presentation Skills - Tabby Cats (Years 1-2)
A practical two-day program that looks to provide students with a basic but important introduction to presenting in front of audiences, and focuses on developing individual skills rather than teaching abstract theory.

Presentation Skills - Tigers (Years 1-2)
Set over two days, this course provides interactive and fun activities to both deepen students’ understanding of how to best present in front of a class and to further develop their confidence in speaking to audiences.

Speaking Camp - Koalas (Years 3-4)
An interactive, activity-based three-day course that aims to introduce the concepts of public speaking and debating to younger primary students with little or no experience presenting to groups.

Speaking Camp - Kangaroos (Years 3-4)
This two-day course for more experienced speakers enables students to apply their speaking skills in a variety of novel situations, allowing them to develop their confidence, critical thinking and resilience further.

Debating - Hummingbirds (Years 5-6)
A three-day introductory course for students with no experience in debating who want to see what it is all about. It is a great way to ease students in and provides a solid foundation to build upon.

Debating - Hawks (Years 5-6)
This two-day course for students with some debating experience that affords them the opportunity to consolidate their knowledge, exercise their debating skills and gain exposure to interesting and pertinent topics.

Public Speaking - Hummingbirds (Years 5-6)
This introductory level course aims to give primary school students a head start on their public speaking and speech writing skills in a fun and welcoming atmosphere.

Public Speaking - Hawks (Years 5-6)
This workshop, which changes every holiday, helps students develop different specific skills relating to public speaking, such as improving their speaking manner or developing their ability as an impromptu speaker.

Foundations of Debating (Years 7-9)
A three-day foundations course designed for students who are interested in learning how to debate at a high school level, providing a strong foundation to build upon.

Experienced Debating (Years 7-9)
This two-day course is aimed at providing experienced debaters with the opportunity to both participate in a number of practice debates and develop some new skills along the way.

Foundations of Public Speaking (Years 7-9)
This course teaches students the foundations of effective public speaking and seeks to reinforce this skillset through practice in a welcoming environment.

Experienced Public Speaking (Years 7-9)
This workshop, which changes every holiday, helps students develop different specific skills relating to public speaking, such as improving their speaking manner or developing their ability as an impromptu speaker.
