Obang at ArtPlay: A Free Korean Home to Explore With Under 5s
Step into a Korean grandmother's home at Obang, ArtPlay's free walk-through exhibition for children from 0 to five and their carers.
The house is inspired by traditional Korean living and East Asian philosophy, and its owner is away visiting her grandchildren overseas. The name combines O, the Korean word for five, with bang, a play on words for direction and room.
What to Expect at Obang
Obang is self-guided, and booking is not required. Large, textured gourds dangle from the ceiling of the lantern-lit house, and a mobile of silver fish hangs under purple light. Lift your baby or toddler up for a closer look, because Obang is an interactive exhibition!
Families co-created Obang with ArtPlay's New Ideas Lab in 2019 as an interactive theatre experience for babies. It has since toured across Victoria and to the Sydney Opera House, and this season it comes home to ArtPlay as a self-guided installation.
With no tickets to book and four open days a week from early November through to mid June, Obang suits a spur-of-the-moment morning with a baby on your hip, and a toddler who loves it can come back for another turn. It is a free event.
Visit Obang for more details and to book your free visit.
