Created by Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre, the exhibition features 21 playful, hands-on exhibits that dive into the fascinating science of colour, light and perception. It's designed to be explored through curiosity and experimentation, meaning visitors can test optical illusions, manipulate coloured light and discover how our brains interpret the rainbow of colours around us.

The exhibition unfolds across four colourful zones — Seeing Colour, Coloured Light, Changing Colour and Making Sense of Colour — each packed with interactive experiments that reveal how colour is created, transformed and understood. One minute you'll be bending light and exploring optical tricks, and the next you'll be discovering how materials shift colour. Every section invites visitors to learn through play.

A special highlight is the Colour in Action interactive, created by Museums Victoria and exclusive to Scienceworks Museum. Here, budding designers can build their own colourful insect creatures using projected light and acrylic pieces, experimenting with live colour mixing while learning how colour works in nature — from camouflage to attracting attention.

Colour: See the World in a New Light transforms complex science into a joyful, hands-on adventure that will have families seeing colour in a whole new way.
