The Ultimate Family Friendly Staycation Year-Round: Atura Blacktown
By: Melissa Fine, ellaslist
Just an hour's drive away from the city, we take a trip to Atura Blacktown for a one-night winter staycay.
Our only regret? Not making it a two-nighter!
Little (and big!) car lovers, look out for the Atura caddy on your way in. Pop into the driver's seat for a photo!
We were super impressed with the colourful lobby/hangout area. There were kids playing on the computer games, a family with older kids playing pool, along with a good selection of board games for a rainy day/quiet evening. And this retro/industrial-chic dining area - the Roadhouse Bar & Grill.
...Where we happily dined on this two-thumbs-up crispy, tender salt and pepper squid.
All while looking out at the awesome pool - we'll be back in the summer to take full advantage of this!
The funky Entertainer King Room was the cherry on top, complete with free wifi and in-house movies for a cosy night in. The hotel's only been around for five years, so everything felt nice and new, not to mention clean! Super spacious too, and the couch folds out into a bed, accommodating a family of up to four if you've got little ones.
Even the bathroom was photo-worthy.
A surprise delivery and the perfect nightcap after the drive-in (see below)! Homemade biccies (so good!) with DIY hot chocolate and edible chocolate disks...
Nearby Attractions
The drive-in - literally next-door! The perfect family evening outing or date night, we skipped the in-house movies and opted for a showing of the new Jurassic World, complete with snacks from the retro diner. Such fun! BYO blankets!
The Royal Cricketer's Arms is Atura's other neighbour, ending our weekend on a high note!
We were pleasantly surprised that it came complete with a chocolate fountain, desserts + cheese galore (all of which can be ordered by special request for a private event), plus live Sunday tunes in the beer garden - the kids can run around while you sit back with a cocktail or some mulled wine.
Did we mention Wet 'n' Wild is around the corner? It's currently closed for winter, but will reopen come summer (dates TBC) - Atura would be the perfect place to reboot and put your feet up before and/or after a fun filled but full-on day at the waterpark.
The fun begins at Atura Blacktown!
