ellaslist Reviews: A 3-Day Getaway Aboard Carnival Luminosa
Setting sail from Sydney on Thursday afternoon, my husband and I enjoyed three unforgettable nights at sea on board Carnival Luminosa arriving in Brisbane on Sunday morning. As a first-time cruiser, I was a bit sceptical, having never considered a cruise holiday before. But my experience on Carnival Luminosa was nothing short of amazing, packed with excitement, relaxation, and memorable moments.
While we sailed without kids, it was easy to see the many family-friendly offerings that make this ship ideal for all ages. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect onboard!

Dining Options: Endless Variety for Every Taste
Carnival Luminosa offers a fantastic variety of dining options that are included in the cruise package. From pizza and deli sandwiches to tacos, burritos, buffets, and barbecues, there’s something for everyone.
For families looking to enjoy a night off from the kids, I highly recommend The Chef’s Table experience. This special dining event, hosted by the Master Executive Chef, features a multicourse dinner with plenty of wine, hors d'oeuvres, and gourmet dishes. The food and service were absolutely incredible—a perfect treat for any parent!
For additional options, there are speciality dining spots like the Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse and RedFrog Rum Bar for a small additional charge. These spots provide an elevated dining experience that will satisfy any craving.
Activities and Entertainment: Fun for All Ages
Carnival Luminosa is packed with entertainment options, making it easy to entertain the entire family. We enjoyed nightly stage shows, live music, and even participated in some good old-fashioned bingo! The Piano Bar 88, The Punchliner and Comedy Club, and a vibrant nightclub offered plenty of evening entertainment options. Families can also enjoy activities like art auctions, live music, and even a Build-A-Bear Workshop at Sea, where kids can create their own cuddly friends.
For something truly unique, the Behind the Fun Tour is a must-do. This exclusive tour takes you behind the scenes to the Captain’s bridge, engine control room, main galley, and even backstage of the main show lounge. Meeting the captain and seeing the incredible logistics that go into running a cruise was a highlight!
Relaxation and Wellness: A Break for Parents
We took advantage of the luxurious Cloud 9 Spa, where I enjoyed a manicure and pedicure in an amazing setting with full glass windows to take in the view. The spa offers a range of treatments, including access to hydrotherapy pools for a rejuvenating experience. For fitness enthusiasts, there’s a well-equipped gym and a variety of fitness classes.
For parents, the Serenity adults-only retreat provides a tranquil escape. It’s a quiet spot for relaxation, complete with comfortable loungers and scenic ocean views—a perfect place to unwind while the kids are entertained.
Kid-Friendly Facilities and Activities
Carnival Luminosa is well-equipped for families with kids of all ages. Camp Ocean, the onboard kids’ club, has activities designed for different age brackets, giving parents peace of mind knowing their kids are engaged and safe. The ship also features a video arcade, board games, a pool table, and table tennis. Outdoors, families can enjoy a giant chess board and the Thing 1 & Thing 2 Birthday Breakfast, a gorgeous Dr. Seuss-themed experience where kids can meet their favourite characters.
Cabin Comfort: A Cosy Home at Sea
Our cabin was well-appointed, with a comfortable bed, plenty of storage, and a seating area for relaxing between activities. I would highly recommend a balcony room to take in the views or chill out with a glass of wine or two in the afternoon.
For families, Carnival Luminosa offers larger family rooms providing ample space for everyone to feel at home. They have fold-down bunks for the kids with ample space for the whole family.
