Roma Street Parkland is so much more than a park - it's a Brisbane icon. It's one of the most inclusive spaces in the city, with facilities including disabled parking and pathways, comfortable baby change facilities, a great cafe (where kids can run around and not bother anyone), and a couple of great playgrounds.
Bring a picnic or let the children run amok while you stroll through the various themed gardens. The cafe is a great place for morning tea or an easy lunch.
Volunteers keep the gardens at a world-class standard and there is always something to see. They also offer sensory walks on request, and there is a mini-train that leaves from the cafe and will take you around the park.
ellaslist opinion: Volunteers are at the parkland 9am to 4pm most days to help you find your way around and make the most of the park. It's also a photographer's dream so if you're hoping to capture a nice family photo, this could be your spot. And don't forget to bring your best friend: dogs are welcome as long as they stay on a leash.
Admission: Free
Getting there: Roma Street Parkland is just about the most accessible place in Brisbane, located above Roma Street train station, and next door to the Roma Street transit centre for buses - not to mention being on the edge of the CBD. There is limited free parking but there is also paid street parking around the perimeter.
Facilities: The parkland is known for its great accessible toilets and baby change areas. It also has a family-friendly cafe, accessible playgrounds, and various gardens and ponds.
